Lakers fans do suck, but not as much as the Golden State players do. I'd root for any team in the league to beat Golden State, even Boston.

Yeah, but then he gets neutered offensively in games like last night where he doesn't get to the line. Players who don't depend on a steady diet of free throws are more appealing to me.

I don't think not getting to the line was as much of a problem as he couldn't make a shot. I don't see him as being FT reliant at all. It's just a byproduct of his game.

Either way, I guess I focus less on that and more on appreciating a great defender. Great defenders are really fun to watch.

Maybe it's from all the LeBron drama the past two years, coupled with the Cavs being one of the worst teams in basketball, all while the league is playing under an unbeatable Warriors team, but my love of NBA basketball is not what it was 10 years ago.

Anyways, thought this was a decent piece that related to the basketball I grew up watching, versus what we see now

Last Monday in Chicago, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich arrived at his pregame interview in the gloomy concourse of the United Center, the house that Michael Jordan built. So many of the league's iconic highlights played out here in the 1990s, and those images seemed to be on Pop's mind.

In response to a ho-hum question about the state of the Spurs, Pop took the chance to lament the aesthetic of the NBA in 2018.

"There's no basketball anymore, there's no beauty in it," he said.

It was a startling statement from the best coach of the era, whose own championship team from just five seasons ago played arguably the most beautiful version of the sport we've ever seen.

Pop honed in: "Now you look at a stat sheet after a game and the first thing you look at is the 3s. If you made 3s and the other team didn't, you win. You don't even look at the rebounds or the turnovers or how much transition D was involved. You don't even care.

"These days there's such an emphasis on the 3 because it's proven to be analytically correct."

That's the perfect choice of words -- "analytically correct" -- to connote the invisible algorithmic hand that now guides virtually all the action we see in NBA arenas. Front offices assign every part of the game bond ratings and credit scores. Financial terms such as efficiency, asset and value have infiltrated the discussion. Offensive tactics are homogenizing, while many tried-and-true forms of scoring fall by the wayside....

I actually like Boston. Despite Kyrie, they actually have a really hard working team that plays their butts off.

I'm just focusing on his offense...on offense he's always been pretty inefficient from outside of the restricted area, it's just particularly glaring when he's not drawing fouls.

His defense this year is fantastic to watch as always.

Boston the team I don't mind. They have some likable players and a likable coach. I find their fans very obnoxious, though

I haven't watched a single non-Cavs game this year and have only caught two Cavs games on TV. There just isn't a reason for me to watch anymore. Quite frankly, even the if the Cavs become good again, I don't think I'm going back to the NBA well. I'm sure if you're a fan of an individual player, the league is much more enjoyable. That's not how I personally consume sports.

Completely agree on individual v team aspect of the league today. Hard to feel like you're rooting for anything meaningful as a fan with the current culturw in the NBA.

Pat Riley was dead on with the "Disease of Me" assessment

Why not? He's one of the most likeable guys in the NBA.
All the yapping and flopping. I dont really know too much about him as a person. Might be a great guy. I have always been more into the Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Grant Hill classy types. Maybe i just like the boring athlete.

He's taking the piss; Embiid is an asshole who's done nothing to justify his loud mouth.

Yeah but their fanbase is just as bad as the Lakers. I think worse, in all sports. Onbnoxius, entitled. Sometimes i engage Patriots fans in the Youtube comment section, my god. I understand what you are saying about their team, but their fans to me are the worst in sports.

I dunno about this take. Look at the five best teams by record so far this year...Raptors, Nuggets, Bucks, Thunder, and Clippers. In spite of the alarm bells going off, I thinks those are all pretty fun teams to watch. The Bucks are the only one that could be accused of spamming 3's, but they have a very likable star who doesn't rely on 3-point shooting at all.

All very true, plus Brad Stevens encourages his team to play dirty. That's his equalizer.

The difference between the fan bases for me is this; the Lakers fans expect every FA to want to come to LA while Boston just thinks they’ll be able to trade for them.

And there’s a 0.0% chance that Brad Stevens encourages his team to play dirty. They play hard and physical; that’s just not typical in today’s NBA, so it seems out of place.
