2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Dan didn't like the idea of that deal without draft picks. He was staring at Lebron leaving, and then losing George too the same summer.

I think James was headed out to LA no matter what. It was not about situation or winning another title or any of that. It was about immersing himself into celebrity culture. I think his family wanted that for themselves too.

Just my 2 cents, nothing to back it up. I do remember that rumor.

I said at the time that it broke Cavs were talking to Boston that if didn't get the draft rights to Tatum or at least Jaylen Brown they shouldn't do the deal. Sexton's season asides, I still think that.

Just looking at the impact before injury, I think if his medical data shows no signs of high risk for future problems , Bol will go in the top 4 quite easily despite the concerns about adding weight. Too talented to not be high on boards, I don't care what smoke is getting blown about him right now.

I don't know man. I see where your coming from but would bet money he will not go top 4 or top 10 for that matter. I really want him to. Just not that early. He could be Greg Oden. Not their play but health. Its going to be a concern.

Griff sucked, was good for some quick fixes but was way too ready to trade first round picks and handed out too much money to the wrong guys.
I wouldn't say that Griff sucked, nor would I say he was great. It's hard to gauge a GM for a team when LeBron is on the roster.

Let's talk about those first round picks. One was used to get Kevin Love. One was used to acquire Channing Frye - who was a pivotal depth piece in a championship. One was used to clear cap space to sign LeBron James. The one we can certainly complain about is the Mozgov trade. Two firsts was a high price. The Korver trade might not even convey was a first rounder.

I think the only place where he was too ready to hand out picks was with Mozgov - and neither pick that was traded was high (26 & 20). Yes, Griff did trade several first rounders. Most of those trades were essential to winning in 2016 and only one can you really fairly criticize in light of that.

Contracts. Tristan Thompson was going to get paid with LeBron here. Shumpert's deal was a bit of any overpay but not unreasonable. There's some fair criticism there, but the team was capped out and in the tax. Smith was coming off a title. We can certainly claim that not matching Delly was an error.

I see some mistakes, but I also see someone who did what was necessary to win and keep the central figure on the team relatively happy. If not for the fluke of the 2016 offseason and Durant going to Oakland, who knows? I know many of us feel very strongly that the team could have beaten GSW in year one if it were healthy. There's no certainty there, but could be a legit possibility.

So with Griff, I'd say we can't completely judge him because of the situation he was in. His background means he certainly deserves a chance to TRULY be in charge and they have given him that in New Orleans.

Reality is that he has done something no other Cavs GM has ever done. Even after the legendary 1986 draft, no Cavs GM could accomplish it. Skepticism of Griff is fair. Saying he sucks is not.

Mozgov instantly helped us that season. Those late first round picks aren't worth much.

Absolutely it was a good trade. Adding Mozgov and J.R. almost instantly made them one of the best defenses in the league that year. That was the my favorite team to watch. I remember them falling behind early and then playing lockdown defense in the 2nd half to win going away multiple times -- almost opposite of them blowing big leagues in later years.

Plus you have to take a shot at the championship when you have a chance and I would guess they had at least a 60% chance of beating the Warriors if Kyrie hadn`t been injured and 65% if Love was also playing.

I don't think many people will question any moves Griff made before the Championship. I think the things he did and held off from doing after the championship were the most questionable stuff.

I think every move seem to work out for Griff pre-championship. Griff just didn't make a right choice after the championship. I think he ran out of moves because he wasn't creative enough. He even stated on NBA TV that he overlooked the value flexibility and would have never been able to building in the flexibility like Koby has.

I think we will see how good Griff is with the Pelicans. He seems to have the power that he wanted with the Cavs and will get the time to implement his vision. He isn't under the pressure to deliver a championship especially with AD asking out.

I think his time as GM of the Cavs was up when he left. Some times coaches and GMs just need to be fired or let go to take a step back to see what adjustments to their thinking they need to do. Hopefully Griff has reset how he looks at team building for the Pelicans sake.

.

Yep. He didn't respond to the Durant move. We had to start thinking more creatively and taking risks as soon as the Warriors added Durant, we couldn't just rest on our laurels and be complacent because we had won a championship. We weren't as far off as people think in 2017, if we had been able to add one good player we could have competed.

If he gets AD to stay, that will be very interesting. Not impossible they win the lottery or something either.
