2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This smells like the Brooklyn pick fiasco,,plan on drafting 8th.

I got my fingers crossed for one more #1 because we did not investigate the tampering in LA. Did you see Lebron being interviewed about KCP being traded? It's crazy because he has a no trade clause, but Lebron acts like it is a forgone conclusion. I guess Lebron is going to order Rich Paul to waive the no trade clause.

Dude, if we draft Zion Willamson. He's the most athletic player since LeBron. I think he's more athletic. Thing that makes me happy is he can pass too. He's unbelivable. Next Duke game is 12/18 at 5 PM.

Must watch TV.

We suck but we don't quite suck enough. Phoenix is a fortress of suckitude. Atlanta has a rookie midget point guard as their leader who can't play defense and shoots 25% from 3. Chicago has talent but needs a platoon of therapists and sports psychologists to do an intervention. We are falling behind in the Zion Williamson sweepstakes.

The tank is safe. We'll find a way to lose 15-20 in a row at least one time this season. Others in our frail group will get hurt and be out for extended periods. Cedi won't come around to any extent. We're good for the bottom three.

Would you rather LeBron or Carmelo?
How exactly are we guaranteeing ourselves the next LBJ by outright tanking? What are the downsides of not pursuing winning, as an organization, in doing so? Do the risks outweigh the rewards?

I'm not convinced.

Might not be more athletic, but he’s definitely an athletic freak. No way he’s a bust.

Atlanta’s midget point guard is racking up over 7 assists a game and has a track record as a good shooter in the past, so it won’t be surprising if he returns to form. Looking at the advanced stats & plus minus, Young and Sexton are both equally adept at driving a tank.

To secure a top 3 odds in the lottery, I didn't think Koby would have to do much after Love went down. Now though, Drew and Koby seem to be on completely different pages on player development. I thought getting rid of JR, Hill, and Korver would be enough. Now I think Koby will have to severely handicap Drew as the season goes on. Hood, Burks, and Clarkson will most likely have to be moved, possibly TT also. Im not sure Koby can bring back all healthy player either.

This sounds like an awful idea. How does this help develop players to handicap a coach?

Tanking is dumb.

If our starting unit is complete and we have 2-3 more for a rotation than we can develop guys but I don't think it will result in wins. Let's say our starting unit is Sexton-Nwaba-Cedi-Love-Nance with Zizic as the third big off the bench and Delly as the backup PG. I think that's enough to develop our young talent. We might need some shooters but we aren't wasting time playing guys like Clarkson, Hood, and Burks who have no future with the team.

Let's says we get two more shooters via trade that are young to round out the roster, I think that is a better path than what we are currently going down.

That sounds fine to me. I must have misread your post when you said you thought the organization should keep the coach from winning.

I have no problem with trading away vets and players who will have no future on this team, but that's very different from actively trying to keep the team from winning.

You can rebuild (trade away vets for assets, acquire and develop young players), while still prioritizing a winning culture. Outright tanking, where you're trying to lose, is dumb. Rebuilding will result in loses, but I fail to see an upside to overtly tanking. Especially with the NBA actively trying to keep it from happening.

I think people have different definitions of tanking. There is tanking by developing your young players and there is tanking by putting out players with no future with the organization or the NBA in general.

I think Chris Grant tanked without enough young talent with upside to move the organization along. I think we currently have enough young talent that if we get a top 3 pick it should make a big difference to the team.

I was saying for Koby to handicap Drew to force him to play our young guys. If that results in wins then so be it but winning with vets in the 4th quarter doesn't help the young players develop or the organization move forward. We need Koby to force Drew to go thru those hard times of playing the young guys so they can get to the next level.

I think Koby can make trades to put a rotation of NBA level young talent together which might not result in wins but will result in a solid base of a rotation for the future to build on.

Comparing Zion to LeBron is bad. They both are fast and can jump really high. That’s where the comparisons end. Zion has been using the shit LeBron didn’t touch til he went to Miami. Zion doesn’t have LeBron’s court vision, skills with the ball, and his shot is somehow even worse.

Please stop.
