2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Terrifying to think Koby comes back next year when this guy is inept enough to keep Longo after firing Lue. Our offense left with LeBron (Love being out doesn’t help) but the defense is still as bad as ever. What does Longo have to do to get a pink slip? They’re last in Defensive rating while being the slowest team in the league. Imagine how much uglier games would be if they pushed the pace. Next level thinking by Longo in avoiding 40 point beat downs however the wheels are starting to come off even for him the last 6 games.
Just as terrifying:

IIRC, Cavs management conducted an internal poll to see where they stood as a team on drafting Anthony Bennett #1. Everyone, which would likely include Koby Altman, David Griffin, and Dan Gilbert, voted to draft Anthony Bennett #1 -- except for one man...

Chris Grant. Yikes.

In retrospect, he truly was the "smartest guy in the room".

Grant wanted to trade down to get Adams and Jeremy Lamb. I wish we did that

At a risk of beating the what-if dead-horse even further, it would've been a good move because Lamb and the New Zealander's rookie years probably wouldn't have bumped us out of the lottery the way Hyphen, Giannis or Dipo would likely have.

Koby is 36 and only started with the organization in 2012. I highly doubt he had a vote in 2013 for the Bennett pick. He was director of pro personnel in 2016 then assistant GM in 2017. Who knows what job Koby had in 2013 with the Cavs.

No one was willing trade down, right? I also have to think there was someone swaying the vote if so many were voting for Bennett, which I have always thought was Mike Brown. Even around here during that draft you couldn't get people to even figure out a top 3. Nerlens Noel was basically number 1 till he got hurt then everyone seem to have a guy or two in the top 10 that they liked, it was all over the place.

At the end of the day the job of making the pick is on the GM, he is the one who will be fired if they were wrong. I think Grant differed with both the Dion and Bennett picks.

Just drafting Olidipio would have been fine.
How they came up with Bennett is really beyond comprehension.

Yeah Bennett was in no videos discussing the top pics. Came out of no where. FML.

I thought Bennett was supposed to be the next Larry Johnson.....:chuckle:

Talk tank all you want.... Facts are the Cavaliers haven't lost an eastern conference playoff series since 2010......

I don't expect that to change this year....

If we're using Altman's promotion timeline as a clue, then it should be noted that he was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel a mere 2 months after the Bennett draft, not 3 years as cited by you. Thus, unless we have hard evidence that he didn't receive a vote, I'm not ruling it out.
  • August of 2012: Hired by Cavaliers as a Pro Personnel Manager.
  • June 27, 2013: 2013 NBA Draft.
  • September of 2013: Promoted to Director of Pro Player Personnel.
  • September of 2016: Promoted to Assistant General Manager.
