2018 Around the MLB Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He’s just a realist, don’t even try to be as real because guess what, you’re not.

Just facts.

Seriously AZ what is this? Stating that the Indians have solid SP to have a punchers chance, but they are quite clearly a second tier team (BOS, NYY, HOU, LAD, CHC, OAK) is not controversial. Can they win the division? Yes and they should be the favorites. Will they be the favorites in the AL? Likely not. We will see what happens, but 2017 season was the time to place your bets on the Tribe. 2019 is not the year for that.

I thought this guy wasn’t coming back until after the All Star break like a true fan..

I just don’t know how you can compete with the Oakland’s of the world.

I mean that rotation of Mengden, Blackburn and Montas strikes fear into the hearts of everyone.

Maybe the Indians have a punchers chance but I doubt it.

See you at the All Star break everyone.

Oakland and Chicago are 1st tier?

Go back to the Browns section dude

I was just tagged in this thread, so maybe you should just stay out and let the men talk.

Fine pick on OAK, the one team I almost didn't include. Let's hear your argument that we are favorites over BOS, NYY, HOU and LAD. Again, I was tagged in this thread. Hey wait til next year with the Tribe, right?

Sure, bud.

And the Indians were favorites in 2018, so we all know that the season is effectively meaningless now.

Maybe some more “wait til next year” jokes will help this take.

You’re doing great.

Oakland and the Cubs are definitely same tier as the Indians. Hell, I've got Oakland pegged a tier beneath us to be honest. They had a great regular season led by a stud bullpen, but they had a lot of overachievers and luck factor into their success.

Would be shocked if they win 90 games again next year, although their division is pretty much a giant pile of shit besides Houston. Doubt they have Manaea at all next year either.

Second tier teams on paper never win so it doesn’t matter.

Who are the favorites?

Good enough for me.

I know you are a baseball guy, and some love the fact that baseball is so open but this is what frustrates me about baseball.

No cap so the rich teams are always loaded with talent, but every year their seems to be a Oakland team or Twins team that comes out of nowhere to be a top 4 team in baseball despite not having talent. Also the fact that the regular season is meaningless once the playoffs begin as talent isn't the only reason a team wins, luck has so much to do with baseball.

That and the fact the Indians have made the finals (World Series I know) 3 times in my lifetime and lost all 3 and went in as possibly the favorite all 3 times.

Man I cant wait until the Browns get good. The day the Browns win their first Super Bowl will be the greatest day of my life, and yes I do have kids and I am not changing that statement, lol

Sports work best when they're completely socialist.

However, teams can still rise up given the financial conditions before their best players reach free agency. Their window is much smaller, but its a window nonetheless.

Some teams get lucky enough to capitalize. Others don't.

The Indians just haven't been lucky enough to get over the final hump.

I understand what you are saying and you are allowed to like certain sports more than I like certain sports. You and a few others are a huge help to me as my knowledge of baseball is nowhere near what my knowledge in Basketball and Football.

That said, I get frustrated by the smaller window and the amount luck plays a part in baseball. Luck is HUGE in baseball.

Baseball is the only sport where you could throw in a bottom-5 team into a best of 7 series and they would have a chance against a great team. All it takes is one guy getting a timely hit and boom, the Padres can hang with the Red Sox.

Bills or Raiders against the Rams in the playoffs this year? They have no chance in hell.

Throw the Hawks or Suns in a seven game series against the Warriors? Four game sweep with an average winning margin of 45.

Padres or Marlins matched up with Boston for the World Series? They’d be insanely heavy underdogs, but it’s honestly not impossible.
