2018 Around the MLB Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
2/25 with a 3rd year vesting option for Miller?

I’m surprised he was able to get that much guaranteed given his last two years with us.

They are gambling on the healthy Miller which in all honesty he is still good, but I think most Indians fans know that’s a high risk to give him that much

The question now is, will this set the market for guys like Britton, Herrera etc.

@Stark (I think you were the one who put the A’s high)

A’s went and got Profar and Closer/Setup Soria today so they are looking to make that playoff spot. That infield now looks pretty good and Soria will help the bullpen out there as well.

So one of my closer friend's brother is the Assistant GM of the A's and I have no idea how to leverage that to get inside knowledge on baseball. Sad, lol.

Remember though, people can only say so much as well! Though you should try and get some tickets on your vacation time! That would be the best way to go about the connection lol

I could get free tickets to spring training, might do it sometime when they play the Indians but I will feel guilty wearing the opposing teams gear although my best friend is a huge sports nut and baseball is his favorite and he is from the bay area so he is a huge Oakland A's fan, might plan a day of Indians vs A's with my son and best friend, could be fun.

For free tickets I wouldn't be opposed to wearing the opposite jersey! Then again I will pretty much watch any baseball game regardless of who is actually playing.

So what do you guys think of the way the last two off seasons have went when it came to playing signings? Who is at fault for the way these off seasons have been?

The Agents
The system

It seems like it needs reform

It’s pretty clearly not working when the 2 marque free agents in the sport have still yet to sign and there are so many talented players still in free agency. And this isn’t an anamoly to this year. It’s been trending this way

To me it looks like the contracts inflated too quickly. There just isn’t enough money around league wide to pay these guys. The money has dried up and the superstars who haven’t gotten their 400 million dollar contracts yet are looking around like what the fuck

And everyone wants to blame owners as if the inflation on those mega contracts was going to be sustainable perpetually. When the costs rise faster than the revenue at some point the bucks gotta stop

Now I haven’t dug into the financials of the MLB and the revenue numbers so it’s entirely possible my entire theory is bunk. And if so let me know. But the mega contract numbers have been rising rapidly. There has to be a point where it stabilizes or its just not going to be economical even for the big markets to tie up such a large portion of their money in 1 guy

The MLB is removing the waiver trade deadline. So only one trade deadline on July 31 this year
