2018 Cleveland Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not, but at the same time I'm not naive enough to think that this will be the Browns' turning point. Maybe it will be, as it certainly seems like we're on the verge of turning it around, but it feels that way with damn near every regime and I'm always left watching a new GM give his press conference as the old one was fired two years before he had a chance to build anything.

This is the turning point. Jump aboard the hype train.

This offseason has been unlike any we've had in the past 20 years. Forget the past - look at the NOW. Don't be one of those fans that shower everyone in doubt non-stop and wait until we're playing well then start getting hyped.

The AFC North is going downhill. It's one of the worst divisions in football, with the only good team being the Squeelers. Their time is coming though: Ben is old, Bell just wants to be paid, and Brown is no spring chicken himself. They lost Haley, have a more depleted O-Line, and haven't addressed their weak defense much at all.

This IS the turning point - even if we don't blow everyone away in 2018, we are speeding in the right direction.

I'm not saying that just to say it either. I've been die-hard since 1999 and I'm only 31 years old. I watched all of our failures every single year and have had my doubts on the direction of this team.

This year? Sooooo much better.

While I agree the revolving door at GM has hurt the franchise, I don't believe that means Dorsey has an ulterior motive to take a step back this season in talent to take steps forward in another season. Cleveland fans had to endure a lot of that with Chris Grant, Koby Altman, Ray Farmer, Sashi Brown, Chris Antonetti and so many other front offices the past decade. I don't see those type of moves from Dorsey. I see him creating veteran competition at a few positions rather than gifting starting jobs. He wasn't afraid to build for the present, even if it cost a few picks. That's really all you can ask for in my opinion.

I don't think he does either. I'm not saying that's what he may be doing. Just saying that he has a history of giving opportunities and pay days to his guys over guys that were drafted before he took over. It's something to at least take note of.

Lumping the best GM in Cleveland in Antonetti (and top ten in my opinion in baseball) with the steaming pile of shit isn’t going to get me believing in your take with Dorsey at all. What a bizarre viewpoint.

I meant that when there is a change of front office, like when Antonetti was promoted in 2010, there is usually a rebuilding period that takes time. Did it work for the Indians? Absolutely. Many didn't work but few tried to hit the ground running like Dorsey.

EDIT - My spell check hates the term "Indians"

Well, most GMs taking over previous iterations of this team didn't have five top 65 picks heading into the draft, including two in the top five and two of the first three picks in the second, along with a roster with a lot of good young players and the most cap space in the league. Not hard to hit the ground running in that situation.

This team wasn't nearly as devoid of talent as Hue Jackson made it look last year. They just lacked depth and an answer at QB, and having the number one pick makes that a relatively easy question to answer.

Yes! Been calling for this for years! A sign of good things to come indeed.

Tank has been with the Browns since 2012. Hopefully the Tank Carder era ending is a beacon of good things to come.

First, the misspell. Hopefully it goes viral.
2nd, you don’t paraphrase Semisonic, you come right out and hit em with “every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end.”

Get this man a proper publicist.
