2018 Cleveland Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think hard knocks was a disservice to him. He just didn't come across as that likable. If it wasn't for hard knocks, I think people would be questioning why he was cut more.

This.

My wife finally got interested in the Browns via Hard Knocks and loathed him. I personally couldn't stand him, and disliked the idea he represented my hometown in any way.

The only things I ever remember him doing on the field were getting penalties or batting down passes.

We might have been able to get a better player in the 3rd round but I wouldn't call him a bust. He definately was a solid rotation player at a position that requires a solid group to rotate in and out to keep guys fresh. I thought he was going to be the 3rd DE in our rotation this year. I was personally suprised by the cut especially how forgettable Chris Smith and Chad Thomas play was in the preseason.

What it came down to is nassib was a Sashi guy and Dorsey wants to bring in his own guys. So glad we have a “football guy” with clouded judgment. Nassib was clearly better then both those jobbers.

As a rook, prior to his injury, he was pretty solid. Like, at times, doing what ogbah now does(criminally underrated player).

After the arm fracture? Womp womp womp.

I remember as a rook in his first preseason people were calling him a jj watt light. Boy, were they way off.

I don't get the Nassib hate. I thought he was a solid rotational player who could make a splash play here or there.
Personally didn’t hate him at all and I’m far (far) from a Sashi guy. I thought he was “ok” but at the end of the day he’s a JAG.

Not nearly consistent enough even for a rotational player and I completely understand the cut if he doesn’t fit their scheme.

Can someone explain why Orson Charles is on this team? Guy has apparently been in and out of the league since 2012. Unless he’s an absolute beast on ST, seems like a waste of a spot.

Also, never even heard of Denzel Rice. Don’t recall him making any plays or hearing his name at all.

Overall, I think the Browns had a good preseason, but some of these late roster moves have been head scratchers to me... Especially on the DL, which I didn’t think played poorly. Now you’ve got 6 new guys coming in a week before the season starts that need to learn the system and develop rapport with the players and coaches. Outside of maybe Carl Davis and Odenigbo, who could be upgrades, is it even worth shaking things up?

Obviously slim chance he is on the team next week, but who the hell is Orson Charles?! I seriously have not seen the guy make a play this preseason.

Really surprised to see Brantley cut. Dude has made some plays, just not consistent. Meder is slowly earning Tank Carder status. I will feel better about the interior once we can finally move on from him.

Orson Charles has been a third TE and FB for five years, not always active on game days. His reputation is blocking first and capable on special teams. Last season he was behind a very capable fullback in KC. Danny Vitale was a player I liked coming out of college, but his main skill was reading blocks on bubble screens. As a blocker he never graded out well.

Brantley flashed at times, but he couldn't stay healthy and could only play the three tech. The Redskins picked him up. DL Ifeadi Odenigbo is the three tech replacing him, especially at his size. Supposedly he is adept at getting after the quarterback. I bet people who follow Ohio High School Football know more about him.

Carl Davis is a true backup nose tackle and just a bigger man. I guess it's Coley and Ogunjobi starting with Davis and Odenigbo as second string.

Also, never even heard of Denzel Rice. Don’t recall him making any plays or hearing his name at all.

Denzel Rice has bounced around since 2015. He originally started out on the Eagles special teams and played last for the Texans. He was injured in 2017, and in this preseason he showed skills in return coverage.

The depth the Browns acquired have experience in the NFL, and many have played special teams. Most importantly, none of them believe in metaphysical powers of crystals. Not a single one.

The Browns are reportedly considering starting rookie UDFA Desmond Harrison at left tackle in Week 1.
"[Harrison has] just improved," coach Hue Jackson said. "So it gives you another option to look through to see who's the best five guys to put out there." Hue and Co. drafted OG Austin Corbett No. 33 overall but are "in all seriousness" contemplating moving star Joel Bitonio back to his original LG position and, in turn, starting Harrison on Tyrod Taylor's blindside against the Steelers. If that really is the case, Harrison would likely be tasked to blocking DE Cam Heyward in the Browns' season opener.

Carl nassib claimed off waivers by the bucs. Orchard will see the bills tomorrow and jets on Wednesday. Weird to see guys getting cut even interested by other teams compared to previous years. This is a good sign.
