2018 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OSU doesn’t get blown out by sub par teams we don’t need to worry about it.

I guess I take issue with this.

LSU got beat pretty soundly by a really average/bad UF team with the worst starting QB in the SEC. But the narrative isn't that LSU lost to abad UF team....its that they lost on the road to a good SEC opponent.

If Purdue plays UF 10 times, I trust Jeff Brohm to win at least 6 or 7 out of 10 against Dan Mullen.

UF's ranking is a travesty to the entire system.

So while OSU should not get their shit kicked in once a year by a mid-level Bog 10 team, the ramifications for Ohio State laying an egg once a year are at twice as damaging as a team like LSU getting beat by a bad UF team, and then rebounding against UGA and getting right back into the top 4.

The rankings of these teams are an absolute joke and completely unreliable. I still need someone to explain to me how in the initial polls both 5-3 Miss State and 5-3 Texas A&M were in the top 25?

And like my buddies who always comment "just let the season play out out...it'll sort itself by the end of the year"........they miss the bigger picture. Any SEC team who then beats that ranked 5-3 team, gets another notch on their belt come resume time. Miss St was ranked #22 when we beat them!!11!!!, etc.

That shit is playing with an uneven deck of cards. The Big 10 is getting pissed on. I'm not sure if Jim Delaney still carries the big swinging dick, but we are getting shit on as a conference right now. We damn near went undefeated in bowl season last year, and are still being treated like we're the trash of the P5 leagues.

Ranked games this week

Miss St @ Bama - Will Miss St move up if they lose by 40?
Clemson @ BC - Much like NC State a few weeks ago, this is a game Clemson can't lose. If BC wins, they control their own destiny and only have FSU and Cuse left.

Other games
NW @ Iowa - A NW win essentially locks up the B1G West for NW.
Wazzu @ Colorado - Wazzu will be on this list until they lose and sink the P12.
Fresno @ Boise - 15-3 between them, yet both ranked behind 10-7 Miss St and Tex AM
OK St @ Oklahoma - O/U is 76. 76!
Wisconsin @ PSU - Chic preseason B1G title game pick. Now, both trying to stay top 3 in their division.
Auburn @ UGA - With a loss, Auburn slated to move up to #14
Navy @ UCF - Navy is only 2-7, but they play the option, and UCF is staring at a Cincinnati - USF - Houston gauntlet. If they are looking ahead, Navy could bite them.

Woah! I did not realize where BC was in the ACC standings at all...that's huge.

:chuckle: So damn true. The mental gymnastics is takes to justify the rankings of SEC teams is comedic and pathetic.

It's the confirmation bias Klatt spoke about. When a mediocre SEC team beats another mediocre SEC team, they just trade spots in or out of the rankings. It's incredibly stupid.

Klatt nailed all his points, as he usually does. All those ACC teams being ranked but not the Big 10 teams makes absolutely no sense.

It *shouldn't* matter much for OSU this year, but it's still fucked up.

If Clemson loses to BC, they damn well better not make the playoff.

Michigan would kick the living shit out of UGA. Hell, I'll go so far as to say that right now Michigan is the only team that I would give a puncher's chance to beat Alabama this season.

Honestly, tough to say.

They would have a better chance if they avoided the 1/4 game against Bama and played them in the CFP championship.

But if it's 1/4.....giving Saban 5-6 weeks to game-plan generally doesn't end well.

Michigan's defense is really good....but I'm not sure they have the offensive weapons to beat Bama. It would need to be a flukey game, where the defense scored a TD or two.

I still think that designation belongs to Clemson.
Meh, I am still not sold on Clemson. If they manage to destroy somebody other than the DeVry Institute - Charlotte Campus and the Myrtle Beach Technical College maybe I'll take a fresh look at them.

Texas blowing that game to WVU definitely hurt us. Really wish Cal was able to beat WaSu too, although I'm pretty sure we'd jump WaSu if we somehow beat Michigan. Texas Tech beating Oklahoma would have been even better...

Committee did throw us a nice little bone by including MSU at #18. If we magically get our shit together and put together a dominant victory, that could put us above WVU/WaSu right away.

It’s honestly disgusting that Florida is 15. They lose at home to Missouri by 3 TDs and fall only 4 spots. What a joke.

Fresno State can’t move up from 23 and Utah State can’t get ranked but Iowa, Penn State, and Texas all barely drop coming off L’s.

This committee is fucking garbage. Let’s go back to the AP poll please.

The committee chair called ND’s QB Ian Booker. And this dumb fuck is who we are to trust with getting the right 4 teams selected?

6 SEC teams in the top 16 is just ridiculous to me. 6 of the best 16 teams are not in that conference, not even close.

SEC teams are having their resumes inflated by the Floridas, Kentucky's and Miss St. of the world, who have maybe one decent win (in many cases against each other) and and have utterly terrible OC resumes.

I will say this is an especially miserable year for 13-25 though, so it is tougher. There is just a mass of mediocre teams. I guess someone has to be ranked in those spots but Florida at 15 is just no different than PSU last week. Michigan would wipe the field with them. The rankings outside the top 12 are just an exercise in futility this season. Pick a name out of a hat.

Right. It's an absolute crapshoot in the rankings after UCF. Those teams are all average AF and you could easily move them around and justify it. It's like throwing at a dart board with a blind fold on to pick those rankings.

Ian Book out for ND vs FSU
