2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't doubt it. I'm not throwing my support behind any of these QB prospects wholeheartedly until I get some more of the scouting process completed.

Agree with this. I need all these QBs to do the combine. I want height, weight, ball velocity, agility drills, hand size, medical histories etc.

Those are important pieces of information that supplement what you see on tape.

Rosen will end up the first QB off the board.

I'm willing to bet Mayfield will be the most successful QB of the class.

Thank god.

By the way, have you seen/read something that makes you believe this?

Nope.

But come Combine time there will be no arguing with Rosen's measurables. He's as close to the perfect prototype of an NFL QB as you can get with size, arm strength, etc.

I think Mayfield makes better decisions, has better ball placement, can maneuver the pocket better. However, Mayfield also needs whatever offense he's put in to be adapted to his skill set ALA Russell Wilson. Overall I think he's the best QB in the class still, and won't relent on that no matter the combine numbers. He's shown all he needs to show to me on his tape over the last 3 full years, and especially this year.

There is no prototype for NFL QB's. I wish we would stop saying that.

If intangibles didn't exist, Rosen would be my overwhelming top choice on the board.

He has the best combination of size, arm strength, accuracy and mechanics.

It's just difficult to play QB in the NFL if you're a selfish/me first kind of guy. Plus, he's already had shoulder surgery on his throwing arm and has missed other time with various injuries.

His character concerns would need to be vetted to the extreme before I'd be comfortable taking him.

It's a strange time in which we live. Wintergreen Research reports that the U.S. youth sports economy is now $15.3 billion dollars annually. The market has grown 55% since 2010. Families spend tens of thousands of dollars a year on camps and other registration fees a year if they are told their child has pro potential.

So when we hear about a player like Rosen who seems to have been tabbed a future starting NFL QB for years, there was an entire sub-economy identifying his family as a market for these expensive camps. At the same time, these camps identified early on that Mayfield wasn't going to be one of those top prospects and he should set his station in life at a lower rung, like New Mexico State and then try to beat the odds.

These services don't always get it right, but I found it interesting that they didn't believe Mayfield had a blue chip ceiling in high school or even as he left Texas Tech. I'm also interested if Rosen got too comfortable after all this early recognition.

What you really wish is that your point is valid. There's absolutely a prototype for the NFL QB position. The problem is that there aren't enough capable players who fit the prototype.

So then there's no Prototype then......

Or the better question is what is the Prototype? Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers are my top 4 QB's and they are all completely different yet very successful. I think you can be successful if you can find a guy who compares favorably to one of these guys but you don't have to be limited to choosing from one of them.

Agreed.

For those arguing, Wentz, Bortles even Kizer are your prototype NFL Qb, but so far, I only want one of those starting for my team.

Bortles and Wentz shot up the draft charts because physically they checked a lot of boxes, despite coming from leagues with lesser competition. Luck was really the last poster child of all the boxes checked: Pro style offense, above the minimum on every possible physical metric. Many scouts placed Cam Newton in that ideal with plus athleticism because he could make all the throws, even if he ran often. Goff had only two knocks: Air Raid inflated numbers and too thin for the position. Now that he added some beef, he's pretty close to ideal.

If you had to pick one now on a redraft who do you take, Goff or Wentz. I know Wentz is the new "it" guy, but Goff has been awfully good too.

Wentz is getting love for proving a lot of doubters wrong - especially Cleveland fans - but they are equally impressive this year. Because Goff had a string of tough defenses and road games, Wentz had a lead, but it's evening up. Wentz has more touchdown passes and rushing yards, but Goff has more passing yards, one less interception, and has taken ten less sacks. One stat that people don't examine enough is Goff's ability to escape pressure, which RCF members all collectively fawned over when he was at Cal.
