2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can't fathom the laziness of that take by Kiper.

Fucking dog whistle to internet scouts like myself and so many others on here who could certainly do better than that trash.
Bet he got a shitload of clicks today though.

Dude doesn't even try to hide it anymore. He's reached First Take status. He's absolutely irrelevant.

Just took a quick look at Allen's game logs to see his record as a starter. 8-6 last year, 8-3 this year. 16-9 gives you praise as a winner from ESPN's "top draft analyst"? I don't know how anyone, even sportscoach who is Allen's biggest cheerleader could say "all he did was win".

Yeah, pretty much done with Kiper at this point. As if there weren't enough reasons to already pay him no mind.

What are people projecting for a QB who by all accounts is not very good?

C'mon dude. Saying that "by all accounts" he "is not very good" simply is not true. There obviously are some people that think he's very good.

What exactly gives people the notion that he has all of these tools yet he by far looks like the worse QB of the ones I mentioned. His statistics are by far the worse and even though he doesn't play against stellar competition when given the chance he looked very bad. What is it with this guy?

It's that he has all the physical tools of the prototypical QB. He's tall, strongly-built, and has a powerful arm with a quick release. He's also a very good athlete for his size, and can even throw very well on the move. His problem is accuracy/consistency. There are plays when he looks like a full-on NFL stud, but too many others when he looks...ordinary. But with a guy like him, a lot of scouts and execs will see the perfect "raw material", and so see a higher upside if they can just "correct" those flaws.

None of the other QB's have his combination of size, athleticism, and arm strength/release. Darnold doesn't have his size or arm strength, Rosen is unathletic and looks fragile, and Jackson and Mayfield are simply much smaller physically, which in the minds of many mean that they won't be able to stand up to NFL-level hits.

Now personally, there's no way I'd take a guy who is that inaccurate at No. 1 overall. But I can understand why guys who see him as the perfect raw material value him so highly.

Perhaps not prove, but support. Statistics combined with the visual presentation of his tendencies are very supportive of the argument that he isn't a worthwhile selection at the top.

I can say after watching the TD highlight video that I was wrong about Allen. Still think it's crazy to take him #1 but I was convinced by a review of strengths/weakness notes and his statistics that we already had him on the roster in Kiser. But he does have much better short range touch than anything I saw from Kizer....there's that at least.

Okay, great. That was a bad play. And you could watch this clip and see the guy as a Hall of Famer:

Not really. Watching just that video, a couple things were very noticeable.

The majority of those plays came from him breaking the pocket and scrambling. You don't make a living doing that in the NFL. He looked like a bigger, slower Johnny Manziel if all you ever saw of him was this video. He had no desire to stand in there and make the throw. First sign of trouble, he was gone.

He stares down his receivers. To a ridiculous degree. I only remember like two plays where he threw to his second read from the pocket. Even when scrambling, he locks on to the receiver he eventually throws it to.

I mean, he has the arm and the size. I won't say he has no chance. But if that's his highlight video, then I can only imagine what the rest of his tape looks like.

Actually, I think video clips almost never prove a guy isn't a worthwhile selection. About the most they can do is disprove a claim that someone "can't" do something, because even one example can prove the opposite.

But even the very best QB's have some plays where they look like crap, so a clip of one single play - which is what was done in the post to which I was responding - where a guy looks like shit tells you literally nothing of value.

I'm not a fan of drafting Allen. But I'm not a fan of weak arguments either.

Big, tall, strong arm...but inaccurate. Boy, where have I heard this before? Let's take a shot on him!!

Absolutely. I'm just saying a compilation film -- one that specifically identifies/depicts a glaring flaw -- could function as support for an argument if it's displayed in say, a vast majority of a prospect's snaps. I'm not even close to disagreeing that a single play is conclusive. I don't feel like I'm that far off base here?

Josh Allen? Please no.

I'm glad majority of us here are smarter than that. Mel Kiper Jr is full of shit, his main focus on any mock drafts posted is to gather all the attention possible.. Putting Allen number one overall clearly does just that.

As far as the real pick goes.. I'm OK with Rosen, Darnold, and Mayfield. After that, I'm locked in with Barkley. Not saying I would be upset fixing up the secondary(I really, REALLY want Denzal Ward from OSU.. Kid will be a stud), Barkley is just one of those guys you would absolutely love to see in your back field.

I believe doing mocks this early is silly, too.. Once free agency starts and the Browns make a few moves, then you can do a million mocks.. Until then, though, you just don't have a damn clue.

Do we have a free agency thread with top 10 free agents at each position? That would be helpful.

My dream would be to sign Le'Veon Bell from the Steelers, and either sign Cousins or trade a 3rd round pick for Alex Smith - because this front office can't possibly expect a rookie to come in day 1 and be ready to go.

Smith may make more sense for a season of two while the rookie learns a ton and gets spot snaps during the season.

I just really hope this front office makes better decisions than what we are used to right now.

We need it pretty badly.
