2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Giants, Cardinals, Jets are the only teams in the top 10 right now who are a threat to take a QB. Giants won't take one that high to sit on the bench for two years. They are the perfect trade candidate for us to trade the Texans pick with which I still think will end up below 13. If the Giants finish top 5 I believe we could trade up 5-7 spots with them to take Derwin James. I know it depends on which teams are picking that high but that's one example of a team who would probably be more than willing to trade out of the top 5.

As for Saquon Barkley, which one of those teams is the biggest threat to draft him? Probably the Colts if you as me today. The path to getting the dream trio of Jackson, James, Barkley starts with taking Jackson #1 overall, hoping the team that is the biggest threat to take Derwin James also needs a QB so that pushes him down to a team that is a good trade partner for us like The Giants. Then if he's still on the board putting a package together for Saquon. It's a long shot to get Saquon that way but there are a few things working in our favor.

1. We have the most draft capital by far.

2. There are other good RB's in this draft. Maybe not as good as Saquon but good enough that teams will still be stuck in the old traditional way of thinking that taking a RB that high is too risky when you can get serviceable ones later.

3. This is an underrated factor but we have the cap space to not only trade picks but acquire bad contracts from other teams who are picking high in the draft but also are in bad cap situations like OAK and BAL

There's a path to get all there which will require some combination of luck and team needs but it's not totally inconceivable.
49ers need a QB and the Giants could EASILY take a QB and have him sit for a couple years.

Kirk Cousins to SF otherwise sure they could take a QB. I agree NYG need a QB of the future but Eli is going to play for two more seasons at least. They are a playoff team with a run game and better o-line. They can't waste a top 5 pick on a QB that won't play for two years and bring back the same team with those holes. They would be better served trading back and picking up more picks and they could still get a QB. Really no reason for them to stay in the top 5.

Huber is not worth the time, Los. Dont bother. His take setting is permanently set to scorching hot.
I stand by that comment. His frame is not built for the NFL. You care to respond how I am wrong? Or are you just going to troll?

Boy, is this a doozy. I didn't even have to shoe-horn a joke in there. :chuckle:

His frame is fine for the NFL. What about his speed? Arm strength? Decision making? ball placement? He's 8 pounds lighter than Watson is right now. His frame is not an issue. Can he pass? Can he avoid the rush? Can he get outside the pocket? Can he extend plays? Yes to all.

So, let me get this right:

A guy who has never played WR in his entire life, who is apparently too skinny to play NFL QB, is somehow going to make it as a WR in the NFL where he will get hit everytime he catches the ball?

You can parrot that fucking moron Booger McFarland all you want, it doesn't make the take any less misinformed. Lamar Jackson is NOT a WR. He is a QB. And a pretty damn good prospect, too.

He is the only guy of this group who can throw with anticipation and fit the ball into small windows. He also has mobility, which is basically a must with the modern NFL QB.

Just in watching Jackson this year, you can see he's made major strides in improving his lower body. Looks much better built this season than last.

Not sure who Booger McFarland is. And I'm not saying he is a WR. He just looks like one. He'll scramble for a first and be in concussion protocol by week 3. I really don't care how a QB scrambles.

QB's much bigger and smaller than him have been absolutely fine in the NFL scrambling.

Size is not a skill. If he hasn't been concussed yet, there is no reason to believe he will be soon.

I'm waiting for any one of these quarterback prospects to widen the gap, but at this point in the college football season nobody has made a jump.

Lamar Jackson was exposed against Clemson. He ended up with some slightly misleading numbers because of garbage time short throws, but he was lost against an upper echelon defense.

Rosen had one great game - the Texas A&M game in week one that set many a crotch on fire - but then his Memphis mental breakdown in the fourth was hard to watch. His Stanford performance leaves me questioning if there's any difference between his mental mistakes and Kizer in his second year of development.

I can't buy shares of Darnold either. He looked better than Rosen against Stanford but absolutely cost USC the game against Washington State with turnovers and inaccuracy.

I'm more of a Saquon Barkley and two stud receivers guy right now than a QB guy.

There aren't any stud WR's in this draft. I'm talking top 15 players.

If the Browns take Barkley with their own first, sign me up for two receivers out of the next four picks - Texans first and second along with Browns high second and Eagles second rounder. This draft may not have an AJ Green at the top, but the top eight prospects would immediately be our #1 receiver.

I only disagree because this will be a strong FA class for WR's. We should still draft one but that's an area where we might be better suited improving in FA.

Also if the season keeps trending the way it's going and Darnold returns to school Lamar Jackson is going to runaway with QB1. The other QB's don't have a chance to make up ground on him through pro days and the combine. I know that's not the end all be all but it matters and he's going to make the rest of them look foolish. When draft season hits I'm predicting he has the best QB combine ever. Will that be enough to cement him as QB1? I don't know but I don know the way this league is it will be too hard for a team that needs a QB to pass on him. Especially after watching Watson this year. Lamar Jackson has the resume and he'll stamp it at the combine like Watson did.

49ers not in QB market? I think they would love to grab a QB for Kyle's offense (btw the Falcons have been... not great without Kyle. He runs a good system. But he needs someone to run it)

I'll be honest, at this point the Ravens would be wise to look at QBs and just being sentimental if not. Flacco is...... not good
