2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With how tight-lipped modern FOs are getting i wouldnt be surprised if this draft ends up nothing like how folks are predicting. I just cant see the Giants, with Eli having one foot out the door, not thinking one of the available QBs is a guy to bank on for the future. I don't see how they pass on a QB to take Barkley. I doubt their GM plans to ever pick this high again and to have their choice like they do here.

So are you willing to give up on Bradley Chubb, Quentin Nelson, Denzel Ward, Saquan Barkley or Derwin James for what ultimately could be those three mid first round picks? That's the question.

I've been warming up to Quinton Nelson at #4 for a pair of reasons: Keep the left side of the Browns line trustworthy, and Nelson seems like an assured Pro Bowler.

The big question with the pick remains the player next to him. Is Bitonio capable of playing left tackle? We are talking about a 6'4 player who usually plays at 305, about the same measurements as Ross Verba back in the day. Verba was really a Pro Bowl left guard moonlighting as a left tackle on a struggling team. A prototype tackle is in the neighborhood of 6'6 or 6'7 with a long wingspan for better pass protection and a wider pocket, and Bitonio isn't going to be that guy.

I think it's pretty likely one of those guys will still be there at 12.

Well I'm going to test it out then
1. Darnold (please god)-Browns
2. Barkley-Giants (Shurmer surprises me here. Again, I think it's him, not us the Bills make the deal with)
3. Mayfield-Jets
4. Rosen-Bills
5. Allen-Broncos (good fit for him)
6. Chubb-Colts
7. James-Bucs

8. Trumaine Edwards-Bears
9. Fitzpatrick-49ers
10. Ward-Raiders

11. Ridley-Dolphins

and that's implying things go as how I've generally seen mocked out.

But we'll see. I wouldn't mind getting one of the Notre Dame lineman, but I wonder if I would (hypothetically) get more value out of Chubb, or Barkley for the franchise.

If had a "choice" in the matter? I would clearly like a combo of Darnold/Barkley.

But again...that's not being out of any place of logic.

It's like having a LARGE Tax Refund check and spending it on a sportscar or motorcycle over just sticking it into the bank.

I know "logically" the smarter choices would be Nelson or Chubb at 4. I know that. But I would be absolutely thrilled if the Browns found their own version of Peterson, Elliott, what have you to just light the league up.

It's a heart v. brain matchup. The Heart V. Brain matchup at 1...has clearly been made up. That discussion is over. But 4...man it gets murky.

I mean, with all due respect, is this your first year following the draft?

To be honest? These past two months have been insane for me at work,

My apologies for some inconsistencies but it feels like a lot of my general draft knowledge has been pushed out in favor of new coding, acronyms and other things of that note.

driving me insane really. but that's my best effort in terms of "thinking" how this could go. Just a VERY uneducated guess.

Someone posted previously comments from Bitonio himself saying thay the Browns haven't asked him to play tackle, and that he thinks he's a guard.

Guards usually want to play tackle so they get the big bucks, but that incentive isn't really there with Bitonio having already signed that contract.

I wouldn't be pissed if we drafted him, but only if he, Bitonio, and Zeitler all are starting.

McGlinchey worries me. Not that I think he's bad, but most left tackles have to deal with covering their inside as well. While he obviously has to do that to some extent too, he's playing next to Nelson, and that's a luxury no other left tackle has. So I worry if that has the effect of elevating how good he looks.

I think this is more timing and communication than actually a skill McGlinchey lacks.

Watching those two work in tandem was a thing of beauty, and I think it would translate well as he goes from a future All-Pro to a current one in Bitonio.

Really good spot to be developed on this squad.

If McGlinchey is our target what point in the first round do we draft him? 4 is to high by the ratings we all know from mocks and whatnot but if we trade down someone may take him/move in front of us to do it. What spot do you feel is safe to say he will be available (while we acquire more assets like a 2nd round pick) if we were to trade down and draft him?

On McGlinchey, I'd say the ceiling of draft position is 12 (Buf), floor is 23 (NE)

I think it's pretty likely one of those guys will still be there at 12.

I know most of them besides James are consistently mocked in the top 10, but none of us predicted Hooker being available at 12 last year. Most of us thought we would for sure need a top 10 pick to get him.

I feel pretty confident one of those guys would be there at 12.

I'll also point out penciling the Bills in for mid-teens seems premature. They don't have a QB. They could easily be a top 10 pick next year.

Remember that pick that we got that is now #4 overall was from a team that won their division the previous year

Yea let's not forget their starter going into the year is AJ McCarron with likely a rookie QB sitting behind him. A poor season is a legit possibility.

Well I've come full circle.

When this all started and especially after Scot M was brought on board, I was immediately resigned to the fact that we were going with Baker. All signs pointed there and it seemed inevitable. As the process went on and we started hearing other names, particularly Darnold, I became optimistic.

But now it's draft week. And my gut is back to believing that we're going to pass on Darnold and Rosen for Baker Mayfield. God, please let me be wrong.

Remember the scene in Animal House where Dean Wormer is reading off their GPAs, and he gets to Blutarsky “ZERO POINT ZERROOO”. Yeah that’s the chance Baker has of coming to the Browns.
