2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So, anyone able to trace the source of the leak of info on Mayfield just prior to the draft? Not that its that important....but I believed it was smoke. Actually thought it could be a tactic to find out who the leaker is/might be. Low and behold, I was bamboozled.

Dustin Fox was one of the first guys I can recall saying he thought the Browns would go after Baker. He had been all-in on Baker the whole way, but was also pretty early in thinking the Browns were in on him.

The reporting was from discussions with "Coaches and Execs from around the league".

Saquon Barkley is the top of this class, but I'm definitely excited to catch a few Georgia games to see if Chubb is returning to his 2015 form. We have all seen athletes who suffer a knee injury, don't look right the first year back, but then look fine in year two. In the 2015 season, Chubb looked like a three down back. Crow is likely moving on after this season, so keep an eye on college running backs.

This is what I wrote back in June. I saw his combine workout and looks like his knee is all the way back. Definitely wouldn't be surprised if he ends up a Brown near the top of the 2nd.

They got exactly one of these guys with three picks.

Dorsey needs to stop trying to be the smartest guy in the league.

Or he knows something most don't.

Corbett was definitely a top 40 prospect on most lists and was on par with Conor Williams.

If you want to take issue with Oline pick, I will listen. And I am not pleased with the Thomas pick.

2 out of 3 ain't bad I guess.

Well, for starters, they picked him out of position, though he played a little in college.

Why not just take Williams? Again, it is Dorsey picking someone for intangible "He's a real guy" reasons.*

That in itself is not necessarily wrong, but I am always wary of making decisions based off of non-quantifiable variables.

Sometimes I feel like he makes decisions just to be contrary. Again, not necessarily a bad thing but sometimes the best solution is the simplest.

That said, I think Corbett will do fine.

Don't know about Thomas though. It seemed to me there were half a dozen guys that would have had more value. How is this guy better than Hubbard, other than musically? If his explanation is, once again, "He's a real football guy (which would be odd given this guy's active interests outside football)," I think people should start asking him to give real explanations rather than an endless loop of cliches.

*This "Real guy" mentality gives me pause. It is based on the assumption that he has a complete grasp on a person's personality. Moreover, it assumes that Dorsey is in complete touch with both the game and the direction it is moving in, as well as the prevailing social and environmental factors that shape personality. In particular, I am concerned he may be too old fashioned and too stuck in the "Football Guy" bubble to understand Millennial players and where they are coming from, or that he is needlessly suspicious of anyone that isn't of the jock disposition. We don't know, but what if the sole reason Dorsey preferred Mayfield to Rosen is because he distrusts nerds or intellectualism? Or that Darnold was simply too chill? Is it wise to let a guy make decisions based off of ingrained prejudices or a skewed view of society?

I am not saying this is the case, but I am always wary when guys run off intangibles.

We see it every year.

Browns trying to outsmart the league.

Nothing has changed in that regard, has me very disappointed but I also acknowledge I don’t know shit. So.

Who said they picked him for another position other than LT? He started 49 of the 50 games he played in at LT. He considers himself a left tackle at the next level. Most of the draft pundits have him listed at guard because he's 6'4 not a 6'7 monster. He has 33 1/8th arms which for a guard is good but for a LT is about an inch shorter than you'd like but Connor Williams who people wanted has 33" arms. Mike McGlinchey the #1 rated LT has 34" arms.

They didn't take a 4 year starter at LT with the 1st pick in the 2nd round to be the backup for 3 highly paid interior linemen. The open position on the line is LT and they are getting this guy because they project him as a LT in the NFL.

I can see the reason on the DL Thomas. This guy was a top 25 5star recruit coming out of high school. A big time recruit. Kid had no major injuries but didn't perform like a 5star recruit. Kid has all the physical tools to be great a player. Do you draft a kid like Hubbard from tOSU that you pretty well know what ur getting or a kid if it finally clicks can improve greatly? I draft Hubbard but I understand why they went Thomas.

That's a little reassuring to know. I personally didn't watch anything on this young man and I was scratching my head when we picked because I thought they said "guard". I was literally wondering what the heck.

If he plays LT? At a good/high level? Really good pick.

If that is the case? My only"wtf" pick is that de from Miami in the 3rd. I see really nothing more than a rotation player, similar to nassib. But as a high 3rd rounder, just feel like we should have went in a different direction.

Before I am asked, I will have to go back and see who is/was still available.

I just want to set expectations on these draft picks. I know people are upset at the selection of Chad Thomas in the 3rd round. Realistically a 3rd round pick is a contributor but not necessarily a starter. Here's an article from 2014 but I bet the numbers are similar.

1: 29.9%
2: 17.5%
3: 12.6%
4: 10.8%
5: 6.4%
6: 4.9%
7: 4.2%
UDFA: 13.6%
Supplemental: 0.2%

12.6% of the starters in 2014 were 3rd round picks. There are more UDFA starters than there are 3rd rounders.

If Corbett is able to earn the LT job right away, that pick looks tremendously better.

I assume he’ll be dumped right into a competition with Shon Coleman and Rod Johnson.

As of now...

LT: Coleman, Corbett, R. Johnson (3 man competition)
LG: Bitonio, Drango
C: Tretter, Reiter
RG: Zeitler
RT: Hubbard, Stephenson
