That crowd had our guys shook and their guys jacked.
James Franklin had an all out mental breakdown in the post game interview. It was glorious.

Full game thoughts

- It was a good adjustment going to the screen game with all the pressure PSU was bringing. So credit the staff. Not sure why they went way from it after they went up 14-13, but they pulled it out when needed.

I sometimes think that this staff and Urban will decide to game plan based on stats for certain positions and players than to actually give rhe best chance of winning the game.

I feel like they want to keep the receivers happy so we don't have any transfers and it helps us with recruiting that we can spread the ball around.

I really think if we paired down the WR group and feed the ball to Dobbins and Weber in both he passing and running game, we would be better off than all the WRs and TE swapping in and out. We use 7 WR right now and I don't think we are getting the best out of any of them.

In the second half we saw the screen game open up because we started to use our TEs to block. I notice at least 3 of them come into the game and run routes too. Add that to the WRs and that's alot of receivers to get involved and target.

its over good thing we have the Browns tomorrow.

seriously. game threads will always have emotional ups and downs by the people rooting for a team.

and you never know when someone is being dramatic or just applying the old reverse Jynx

I will always wonder how Burrow would have done with this team. The offense would probably be alot different. The weird thing is Burrow might end up being the more long term QB since Haskins will probably leave this year and Burrow probably will play another season in college.

Even if Haskins does leave *he shouldnt, he needs more starts* they had Martell in front of Burrow.

Yeah. I’m not sure what he was trying to say. “You thought I was a psycho before? You haven’t seen anything”

Also had a little exchange after the game with a fan that questioned the 4th down call. Not a good look.

They didn't have Martell ahead of Burrow in the spring. From everything the staff said it was pretty much a dead heat between Haskins and Burrow for the starting job. Long term they may have slotted Martell higher but even Martell has admitted he has a long way to go with his passing to be a starter for this team.

I do think whatever decision or talk to Burrow that the staff did was the right one. They couldn't risk losing Haskins to give Burrow the starting job.

From the clips I saw on sportscenter that isn't winning him any recruits.

Can't for the life of me understand why they went away from the quick passes into the flats that had the offense marching down the field the 1st 2 drives of the 2nd half. Haskins has to be better going forward, he seems very inaccurate when pressured. I'm never too confident when we are in a 3rd and 4+ situation with Haskins' lack of mobility.

I still think it has something to do with spreading the ball around. Those screens went to Dobbins, KJ Hill, and Campbell. When we have 7 WRs and 3 TEs in rotation, it's going to annoy alot of players if they are just blockers in big games. Urban recruits guys and sells the dream of getting them to the NFL. No one is drafting receivers to block.

I actually think you could pick any 3 of our WRs and play them the majority of snaps. I think alot of people would change their tune about our WR group because guys would develop with reps and chemistry with the QB. We are just too deep and the staff is too willing to have large rotations for any player to become a go to target.

No offense man but this is quite the theory. So Day and Urban consciously went away from the WR screens to keep the guys happy and for future recruiting purposes rather than winning the game? Losing that game hurts both much more.

I'm sure Terry McLaurin wishes he had a catch or two last night but he's going to get a standing ovation in film for that block on the game winning TD.

I'm not saying they were willing to lose the game. I think there is a conscious effort to get everyone involved in the overall game plan. I don't think it's a play by play thing. The default playcalling is to go to 4-5 wide and go thru progressions instead of pushing it to specific playmakers. My guess is that's what they have been practicing the vast majority of the time because it has worked so well till this game.

We could have gone to running more screens but the question is how much of that did we practice. I bet we would have gone to reusing plays at some point. I think they were saving them for when the game was on the line.

I bet they will practice to get the ball into more guys hands in screens going forward. It will be part of the overall plan to spread the ball around.
