Because you're only looking for evidence that confirms your theory. I can find countless examples that deny it: how many big men have AWFUL handles and BIG hands?

Unless you can find a way to systematically test your theory, then your confirmatory evidence is simply anecdotal.

Well of course they do. The are big man. This is exactly why I said that not every player with big hands is automatically a good ball handler.

Big man also have much longer legs and higher center of gravity with means that there is inconsistency every time they take a dribble. It takes longer for the ball to reach the top and it also loses momentum much more compared to a shorter player. Their size also doesn't allow them to hunch down in order tocontrol their dribble better...you can't dribble when you are upright and tall(Michael Porter ehm...).
On top of that, big man don't practice their dribbling skills as much as PGs/SGs/SFs...that is obvious. Their growth spurts usually happen early and the they start practicing big man stuff.

Only big man that have great handle is the guys that played PGs early and had a late growth spurts like Anthony Davis and Draymond Green.

And why would I want to confirm my theory? I wish it wasn't true. I was aggressively looking for players with good handle that had small hands. My theory can go to shit.

Dzanan Musa disagrees :chuckle:

Why don't you guys debate over what is most important? Like, what is more important, hand size or calf/thigh size?

I think there's also room for discussion on player hair style choices.

So are handles developmental or are they based on hand size?

Because now you're arguing that big men should be excluded from this debate because they were not DEVELOPED to dribble a ball.

BUT, your initial point was that Sexton won't IMPROVE because of hand size, and that DEVELOPMENT has little to do with it.

You can't have it both ways.

If LBJ stays, Sexton is gone. I mean, that much is beyond obvious...right?

This is why Sexton was a great pick for us. A great developmental pick for a tanking/rebuilding team---which are the types of team we will trade with, OR the type of team we'll becomes if LBJ leaves.

I'd be shocked if we go into next season with LeBron and Sexton, though I do think there's at least a sliver of a chance that happens. A big enough sliver that I can spare a thought for how they might fit together (or not).

Sexton's handle is pretty tight. I am not sure i agree with this. I think he loses the ball because he gets out of control more than it is slipping out of his tiny hands.

One thing I will say is that they are trying to force the team to play faster with this pick. I agree with that, but it means Lebron has to sit more minutes and get his rest.

Clarkson and Larry probably suffered most from playing at a slow pace, and honestly I think it hurts Kevin. He is great as the trailing big on the 3. WHen kevin makes fast decisions he is at his best.

Cedi, Nance, Hood, Clarkson, and Sexton all like to play fast. Gotta use our depth to play a 10 man rotation and get guys in and out quicker and change the pace.

The half court creation was something that the Cavs could hold onto when Kyrie was around, but it has worn on Lebron very heavily this past year.

You can't play faster and change the identity of the team on defense and offense as long as Kevin Love is on the team. You can have 4 athletic players on the floor and one non athletic player and the team can still be considered non athletic. One slow animal will drag the whole pack down and at one point they have to make the decision to abandon him and prosper or stay with him and die.

It's time to make a decision.

I want this team to play fast as a whole and be able to switch, generate steals and block shots.

I know what you are saying. I still think Love is swapped for a more athletic guy if what Koby has done already is any indication.

Really though, he played much better with Larry, and even though he never played with lil Z, that is the type of guys he has traditionally played with the best.

I do think you can have Love as your most nonathletic player, but you have to have good athletes and defenders around him. JR and TT are not those guys anymore.

I did always think having Kyrie and Love together was a recipe for disaster. I still think RJ turning back the clock while Love had the concussion was crucial to the chip.

all of that would require competent coaching. I think Lue prefers Lebron pounding the ball for 15 seconds then shooting. You think Lue was exposed last season, watch him coach without Lebron on the team

Do you know how big Chris Paul's and Curry's hands?

The main reason this is a difficult topic is that the combine didnt measure for hand size up until about five years ago or so. From what I can tell, Curry can palm a basketball, I'm not sure Paul can. Derrick Rose definitely couldn't palm a ball and it hurt his finishing at the rim a little, not sure if his dribble suffered from it. I see that Sexton can palm a ball while dunking, so I feel like 8.5 is still above the minimum for being negatively impacted by hand size. Just my guess, we will see more data in time.
