2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I saw his hip problem, lumbar region problem from miles away..he is very stiff in the lower region. I wonder how long he has had this problem.
For a prospect such as him this is huge. My biggest question mark with hi mwas how he would create separation, create off the dribble other than straight line drives and look on defense as far as mobility goes. This changes a lot and not for the better for us.

I wanted other team to pick him up because I wasn't high on him at all, so now we have players that I liked that were in our range and are about to rise and his stock to fall, unfortunately. It's not even close to the Embiid situation.. Embiid was a freak that would dominate even if he lost a bit of explosion and lift, but Porter needs that to be on top of the competition.

Looked into the specific procedure he’s getting...here’s some athletes.

Tiger Woods in 13-14(Yikes)

Peyton Manning in 2011 ( Okay, not bad...)

Gronkowski in 2013 (Phew, was getting worried)
..

Tony Romo 2014 (*Gulp*

Dwight Howard 12-13(oh no...ohhh noooo..!@&!@!@!@!!!!)

Michael Porter getting back surgery. Done for the year. Wow.

@czvo was all over this last night

That’s the scariest thing I’ve ever heard. Back surgery for a 19 year old?

He’s so talented he’s still gotta be a top 5 pick but my goodness that’s going to be the riskiest pick of all time.

Yeah, I guess my source was right.

Well, this draft just got a huge kick in the balls.

I feel like he’s still almost definitely going to come out and still almost definitely going to be a top 5-10 pick.

I mean a lot will depend on medical scans and doctor opinions now. But if most doctors believe he will be okay in the long-run...he’s still a surefire early lotto pick. Just too much potential.

A couple of doctors did a study on 61 NBA players with herniated discs, comparing their performances based on whether they went through surgery or not. Key point:

OT players played significantly fewer games and had a lower PER than controls during the first postoperative season, but no difference was seen 2 and 3 years after surgery, with no difference in postoperative career length

OT meaning players that were operated on.

3-4 month timetable would put him at a point that he'd be ready for pre-draft type of workouts.

Much of his game was predicated on his athleticism, which is worrisome.

Porter now projected to lead the draft class in scoring rate (36 points/36), rebound rate (36 boards/36), TS% (1.000), PER (80.2), and net rating (+124).

This is just me speculating, I have no inside info on this... I think he returns to school.

I know we've always heard these prospects say things like "I want to leave a legacy, I haven't closed the door, etc." But Porter is different. Every kid in that family plays at Mizzou. I believe him when he says he wants to leave a mark at Mizzou. Plus, his brother and dad will still be there next year. I just don't see him as a lock to come out.

I definitely see what you’re saying but I’m not sure a guy who just had back surgery should turn down a top 5-10 rookie NBA guaranteed contract if he has good intel he’d still get picked there. Talk about taking a risk....

Absolutely. That's why I wanted to make it known that my post was all me.

Other NBA players I could find who had this type of surgery

Mike Dunleavy
PJ Tucker
Amar'e Stoudemire
Dwight Howard
Martell Webster - back problems ended his career I believe
Rudy Fernandez
Quentin Richardson
Donatas Motiejunas
Josh McRoberts
Jeff Foster

Scary list other than Tucker.

Need to know the time their career started to decline and when they got the surgery.

This is a very encouraging read. Makes sense too.

My only concern is...why did this injury happen? Somebody get this kid to LeBron’s yoga instructor, STAT. Gotta loosen those
hips up!

It supposedly happened in warmups. That's the reason he started that first game, and immediately came out. Had they removed him from the starting lineup before tip, it would have been a technical.

Not so much the exact moment it happened , more like...what underlying causes led him to being susceptible to such an injury? Was it a freak thing(is that even possible with this injury?)? Or was he pre-disposed to something like this potentially happening because of some on of body structure / running posture/ whatever issue? If it’s the latter, what is the issue? Is it correctable a-la Stephs ankles or is it like Odens legs being different sizes or whatever his issue was speculated as being.

Whatever..I do trust the Clinic completely. So I will be behind whatever they decide with this guy, if it becomes an issue at hand this Spring.
