2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't remember ever saying that. I just said he could start for Crowder right now on the Cavs at the 4.

Maybe I misinterpreted you; I'm referring to this post:

Yeah, we're just completely off on him. Nobody is drafting Mikal Bridges in the hopes of him becoming a star NBA 4 lol.

You look at what you want from each position... beyond being a franchise player, Bridges has all of the traits you want from a wing. He's going to affect winning more than alot of these guys in the back end of the lottery ever will.

I don't really think he has all the traits you want in a wing; in particular his ballhandling and court vision are both average at best by NBA standards. IMO, playing him at the 4 maximizes his strengths and minimizes those weaknesses.

Yeah, what I was basically saying is that if you were to draft Bridges solely hoping for him to become a star-level player at the 4, then you'd probably be disappointed. By star I'm saying 20+ PPG.

As far as the traits wanted from a wing, I think we just disagree. Ball handling and court vision to me aren't essential at all for a 3. For example, if you just look at some of the best teams over the years, all of them have wings that are essential to their success - none of which rely on those types of skills, and all of which thrive at similar things to what Bridges does well:

Trevor Ariza
Otto Porter
Danny Green
Andre Iguodala
Robert Covington
ATL Demarre Carroll

Most of these guys' offensive burden is limited to catch and shoot 3's and energy plays. None of those guys were asked to handle the ball or have any above average court vision (though Iguodala provided that). Sure that'd make them better players, but it wasn't essential to their position and the team's needs.

In today's NBA, I actually don't think there's THAT much difference between the 3 and 4 offensively anymore. All of those players I listed above could be great 4 men in certain lineups, and I think that applies too with Bridges.

Zona guards are the biggest ball hogs in College. Ayton just doesn't get any touches, it's maddening.

Iggy was, and still is at times, a point forward.

I was just referring to his role on the Warriors the last few years during the playoffs/finals. He was pretty exclusively a standstill corner 3 shooter.

Yeah, Robert Williams is completely off my board as far as the Cavs go.

And Ayton doesnt know how to defend. He will get exposed on defense in his first year by every team in the NBA probably.

What do you mean by off your board? What range would you have him do you think? I haven't even really formed an opinion on him yet at all.

The one frustrating thing with watching Ayton is that anytime he rolls to the hoop, or posts up, most teams just double him. I think that is one of the causes of him constantly picking and popping rather than rolling. If I were the coach, I'd think I'd do alot more to get him to roll more often, I don't know. The spacing in the NCAA is just so bad.

BTW I wanna know what everyone else thinks of Bill Walton on the broadcasts? I think he's hilarious, but I know others might feel the opposite lol.

Off my board means that I'm just not going to even scout him at all. Don't care for him because I just don't want him on the Cavs. He is probably going to be picked around 13-15.

Ayton is tough to scout, no doubt. Needs alot more data to form a solid opinion, but his defense is bad.

Don't mind Walton at all... like him actually.

Robert Williams looks kinda lost on offense unless he's catching a lob. Still he's a super bouncy big, he will probably be a lottery pick.

He makes boring games worth watching. Didn't watch the game tonight, but his quotes on Ayton were hilarious. He also has great chemistry with Dave Pasch.
