2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He doesn't really fit on the Cavs at all, but this thread is lacking some Dzanan Musa talk for sure lol. Wouldn't put him in that tier of guys though probably right now.

Kyle Korver protege?

Lol we were talking about drafting the next cornerstone of the franchise 8 weeks ago now we are hoping for a poor mans Kyle Korver. Unreal

"protege" doesn't mean "poor man's." I was just responding to the comment that he doesn't fit on the Cavs by saying that he could basically step into Korver's role over the next few years as Korver gradually goes from being a regular 25 minutes per game guy to an end-of-the-bench veteran mentor.

Nah, he's much more of an on ball guy to me... Jamal Crawford type.

For those that aren't familiar with him, finished this one earlier in the week:

I know what you meant. But bottom line is we went from future stud to future role player in terms of our expectations.

I agree it sucks that the Nets are outperforming expectation, but to be fair I do have (at least) 11 prospects slotted above Musa, and there's a very good chance the Nets pick will be top 11.

You've probably watched at lot more of him than I have, so I'm reluctant to offer critiques, but I'm not sure it's fair to call him a one-dimensional scorer. For instance, after last summer's Eurocamp DX wrote:

"Willingly getting his teammates involved and showing the type of unselfishness and maturity that scouts want to see from him, Musa didn't post huge numbers, but had an extremely positive performance nonetheless guiding his team to a blowout win, doing a number of little things to help them come out victorious."

If you draft him you're surely drafting him for his potential as a scorer, but I don't think his all-around game is *that* brutally underdeveloped.

Yeah you should watch him more lol. He's not a guy that will play make for his teammates too often for how much he has the ball. Routinely shoots step back threes against switches for example lol

He can become a better playmaker for the amount of attention he will be able to draw though. Otherwise he's similar to Jamal Crawford to me

"Bigger Jamal Crawford" isn't a terrible outlook for a late lottery guy, at least on the offensive side of things. My concern is that he'll be Jamal Crawford on defense.

Based on the eye test, there's no way Collin Sexton should be in the mid 40s on 3s. He's got a natural fade to his shot, he takes a ton of contested and off the dribble looks... I'm not sure if it's a mirage or if he's just a talented shotmaker, but I'd lean towards the former a bit.

Just get in position to draft Jaren Jackson...

I would not be disappointed in getting Sexton if we pick 7-9. He’s a baller. Much better player than Lonzo IMO.

Sign IT to a 3 year deal like Lowry with a 4th year team option , groom Sexton and let him be the backup, hopefully Wade sticks around to teach him how to run a unit.

Tremendous game from both Sexton and Ayton. I love how physical and competitive Sexton is, and it seems like every game someone tells a story about how he stays late and works harder than anyone else to get better. Seems like he can effortlessly break down his man and get into the paint, and just from watching the game it seemed like he had way more assists than he ended up with. I don't remember a glaring instance where he turned down an open pass to take a more difficult shot.

Ayton looked more engaged defensively than in any game I've seen so far. He was going out of his way to contest shots and did a good job staying vertical for the most part. On offense it seems like he adds something new every time. Today he faced his man up and went behind the back on a drive to get fouled. Also love his confidence in swishing back to back clutch mid range Js when he flashed to the top of the key.

Edit: also, why the hell are they playing Rustic with Ayton, and giving him post ups to boot? I think they'd be impossible to guard either giving Ayton the ball in the post in a 4 out 1 in lineup, or having him roll downhill with a spread floor. Seems like bad coaching to me.

Sexton is so similar to Gilbert arenas. Huge chip on his shoulder and crazy shot maker

Ayton's offense doesn't worry one bit, he's naturally fluid at that part of the game in a way that makes me think he'll have no problem transitioning to the pros. Defensively he still seems weirdly timid to me, considering how big and athletic he is. Part of it is that he just doesn't seem to have good instincts for it, but he even so it's concerning just how little effort he puts in. He looked better vs 'Bama, but I still wonder how he's going to fare in the NBA.

Sexton is just a fucking dog. Tremendous ballhandler and you can just tell that he plays with a ton of heart. I still don't know that I trust his jumper and he seems a bit reliant on going to the line. The good thing is that he's really fucking good at drawing contact and he isn't afraid to dive head first into the teeth of the defense. He's probably gonna get rooked pretty by the ref's but I have a feeling he will gain their respect pretty quickly with how fearless he is.

Putting on the Michigan State game from friday to check out Jackson and Bridges now, will post my impressions later.

Just shows how valuable this pick is. To use it or if someone significant is moved.
This is how you easily apologize to fans for trading your star player.

I am pro keeping it anyway, because I fear of lottery jump and someone else picking no 1... especially if IT is healthy and plays good in the Finals. Because that would to me be enough of established players to plug in some top 10 rookie and Cedi(possibly AZ) for the next season. Our pick can be paired with something for someone of need... or not.
