2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
err Paul Pierce :chuckle:.

I'm just no sure he is a volume scorer like pierce, that's why I think a better version of Livingston is a maybe more of a realistic comp.

Doncic strikes me as a guy who will be more of a 17, 8 and 4 type player (ceiling wise).....he'll do more all-around vs. a much steeper spike in scoring like Pierce (who was scoring in the mid 20's).

His athletic ceiling will maybe remind people of Pierce but I think their comps are different from a production profile standpoint.

After looking through season finder and tweaking numbers, 15, 7 and 4 is kind of where I see players popping up that seem like good ballparks for career production.

Maybe that is really underestimating what his ceiling is, given his age and experience but I would more view him as that type of player.

Few guys have his size, so some of the names are a little silly (i.e. Baron Davis) but more of that all-around player who scores in the mid teens, distributes and rebounds at an above average level for his position.

Pierce was really athletic. Everyone just remembers his old man game tho.

Pierce was athletic but not Lebron or Giannis type of talent. This is why I actually make the comparison and not just in jest is that Doncic isn't a bad athlete: he can dunk on people but he's not in the same athletic category as a guy like Bagley next year

I also think he can be a big time scorer with that shooting ability and handle: similar to Pierce who would use his size and handle to get to where he wanted on the floor

You're...you're saying Doncic's ceiling is 4 assists per game?

:eek7:

Bro, I'll take the over for that on his rookie season.

Agreed. Does Doncic actually play pg for them? He looks super skilled, so he might be able to come in right away and start as a pg?

Doncic ranked 4th in Euroleague in assist rate last year. He led all perimeter players in rebound rate. He was 17 years old for most of the season. Freak of nature.

Not worried about Doncic's position.... it's just primary ball handler.

And then you can build a lineup around him-- kinda like how Houston uses Harden. Beverley-Harden backcourt. Harden-Gordon backcourt. Have him play the wing with a Beverley-Gordon-Harden.

Move him all around the court and he'll be a matchup nightmare. Milwaukee did something similar with Malcolm Brogdon....

With that said, I think it would be a very awkward fit here as long as the LeIso offense remains in Cleveland.

The 4 number was rebounds.......7-8 was assists.

Doncic is going to average atleast 6 rebounds a game.. rebounding numbers are much easier to predict in my opinion.

Assists is more tricky.. what if he gets figured out on offense and switching defense proved to be very effective against him?

I'm realyl rooting for the kid though and I can't wait to see him play.

I'm more skeptical on his rebounding. I'd be pretty surprised if he averaged 6 a game. Saric had much better per 36 rebound numbers (+1.5) in Euroleague (and is bigger) and only averaged 6 in 26 minutes per game this season in the NBA. I think Doncic has rebounding potential but I'm a little more bearish until a see it against better caliber athletes.

I agree the assist numbers are a little trickier but I'm assuming he goes to a bad team and will have the ball a lot. Were he to be drafted by the Cavs, you might see him rebound more and assist less.

I have seen Doncic's PPP in different offensive sitations, and surprisingly he has been the most productive and efficient in sitiations that you'd favour the more athletic gifted players.
That's encourging, although it needs to be taken with a grain of salt, because he is till fairly athletic in euro standards and going up against the best athlethes is probably going to make it more difficult to score in that regard, or not.

I just found the graph, here.

I think I want to keep the pick. Is't drafting a young star going to keep LBJ here?
