2018 NFL Draft - Day 1

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As predicted, Browns had to take a QB #1, even though they really didn't.

Nobody but the Browns would have passed on Barkley, even if all of those QBs were sitting there.

Maybe we got the franchise QB and a lock down CB1 last night but I think our GM was playing checkers last night while the good teams were playing chest. We left a lot of value on the table last night. Besides knowing who the good players are you have to know how the draft is going to go and manage it. I think Sashi really understood the last 2 but needed to improve finding the right/good talent. Maybe the new GM can't do the other 2 but finds good players. God I hope.

With out worrying about trading down lets look what the draft could of been compared to what is:

1. Mayfield 1. Barkley. 1. Mayfield
4. Ward 4. Mayfield. 4. Chubb
33. Landry. 33. Jackson 33. Guice
35. Guice. 35. Landry 35. Jackson

I think I would rather have the 2nd one but we won't know for 3 years.

If you look at trading down I think our expectations for what we were going to get back for trading was to high. But there was opportunity if we made a adjustment. We could of dropped to 12 and then back up to 7 to get Ward or even maybe 10. I think we could of also played with the 1 with the Giants and Jets. At the minimum there was a 2nd and 3rd round pick out there we could of gotten and still drafted the same players.

No running back is ever worth taking #1 overall.

If you think the Giants would have went with a QB #1 you'd be foolin' yourself.

I’m not saying that. I’m saying that the running back isn’t that important in today’s NFL to warrant a #1 overall pick, Hell even top 3-5. Teams are going to committees, finding guys in later rounds to get the job done. Look at the two rookie running backs last year who made the Pro Bowl. Kamara and Hunt. 3rd rounders.

If I told you you can get AP at the beginning of his career guaranteed would you take him #1?

Uhhhhh ya think

But that's not how prospect evaluation works.

Still, I'll follow your logic...

If you have the top pick in a draft knowing you'll get Drew Brees' career, Adrian Peterson's career, Big Ben's career, Or Matt Ryan's career, you sure as hell aren't taking AP #1.

I know.

I’m just saying that if you find a generational talent like Peterson. Sure, he’s worth the #1 pick.

No he’s saying you’re an insufferable OSU homer because you’re just that.

One of the biggest OSU fans on the board. :chuckle:

It’s not a slight. You’re just a massive fan.
The "OSU homer" label here was birthed for being critical of the Peppers pick.

Saquon Barkely was not a generational talent in college. AP was.

He went 8th, and everyone still knew he was a generational prospect.

I'd still take Joe Thomas now, and 2007 AZ was wrong about it, because I was pounding the table for AP.

Underrated is how awful the Steelers pick of Terrell Edmunds is

As I've said here prior, the problem with taking a RB that high is that, if they pan out, you're going to annihilate your cap when they need to be re-signed. You just can't give a stud RB that second contract because the position is not valuable enough to warrant paying a guy fifteen million per year. It destroys your team.

What round was Wilson, Brady, Taylor, Prescott, Brees, Carr, Foles, Garrapollo, and Cousins drafted??

guy had 2 injuries in college and it scared some teams like it always does.
