2018 Series #35 | Angels @ Indians | August 3rd, 4th, and 5th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wow! Mcallister DFA’d. It took them long enough. He should have been gone a couple years ago.

My next question, why is Tomlin still on the team??

Tomlin is a popular guy in the clubhouse and really respected by the younger guys. The Indians can have him on rehab for 30 days, so I'd expect him to do that, get brought back to Cleveland when rosters expand, and then just be left off the postseason roster.

What is a Maddox? complete game shutout or less than 100 pitch complete game?

Complete game shutout with less than 100 pitches.

Complete game shutout with less than 100 pitches.

Anyone know how many Maddox has in his career?

Is Maddox the best pitcher of the last 30 years?

Final question.

Best player? Kluber? Bauer? Miller? Lindor? Ramirez?

Hat to be Kluber right?

This is such a great debate to have. We got so many special players. Yet some think its just a mediocre team. ;)

As for your other answer. Watching Kluber like this is totally fun. Throwing darts and orchestrating a sympathy is awesome to watch.

This is just a really fun team to watch though. They should be selling out every game.

We have literally everything you can ask for baseball wise in Cleveland.

This is just me personally, from who I've seen. It'd be a toss up between Maddox and Pedro Martinez. Pedro doesn't have the longevity but he was pretty damn dominate at his peak much like Maddox.

Guys like Randy Johnson, Clemens, and Ryan were always dominant throwers, and racked up the strikeouts, but you could get to those guys too. Probably more entertaining to watch for many, but throwing the ball so hard has its pros and cons. Not that they weren't great, just they weren't artists on the mound like a Maddox or Pedro. These guys could literally play musical chairs with batters at their peak.

Maddox probably gets the edge for most. Especially in the mid 90s where he was legendary great. I mean, guys just didn't hit off him!

It was just really, really BAD luck the '95 Indians, honestly an all-time great time EVER. That probably wins it all any other year it plays, happens to go against Maddox at his better ever, against Glavine and Smoltz at their prime.

That's just bad luck. Any other season, we win it all. Fuckin' Maddox lost just two games that season. Gave up just 8 homer runs, and walked just 23. For an entire season!

Fuck, Salazar can do that all in a game.:chuckle:

Guys were batting .197 against him. That's just crazy givens the few walks too. A guy like that is virtually unhittable.

Maddux threw a Maddux 13 times in his career, if you can believe that. Throwing 13 career shutouts is crazy, let alone doing it 13 separate times with less than 100 pitches in the outing?

Best pitcher of the last 30 years? I’d probably say yeah, but I’ll look into that tomorrow and give a top-5 or so.

Thanks for the responses, wasn't trying to hi-jack the thread, just fun stuff to talk about. Since not many people come here, the game threads can also be open for fun debates like these imo.

On a side note, a friend of mine grew up in Vegas with Maddux and played with him all through little league. My friend's Dad was the coach.

I have known him 13 years, so toward the end of Maddux's career whenever he played in Phoenix, my friend would go to dinner with them, they were actually pretty close and got to meet him one time. Was very, very nice to me, but that doesn't really count.

That was the same job I worked with a guy who's dad was former head of the Umpire Union Dave Phillips who I also got to meet. (autographed his book for me). Dave Phillips had a pretty amazing career (disco demolition, only ump to throw Gaylord Perry out for throwing a spit ball, etc), but the biggest note to us Indians fans is he was the Umpire that confiscated Albert Bell's bat that later got stolen out of his office.

Its funny, I have a ton of really cool baseball connections, but just isn't the sport I know even close to as well as Football and Basketball. (Know Josh Byrnes pretty well, our daughters played on a travelling soccer team together for a couple of years, and one of my best friends Brothers is the assistant gm of the Oakland A's)

Also, would you guys rather watch a pitching gem like this or an offensive 10+ run game?

I really enjoy good pitching.

If I'm at home, I like watching better pitching more. You can see the movement, the location, it's just beautiful.

If I'm at the ballpark, the high scoring games are way more fun.

For the hardcore fans in here is Kluber in talks for the Cy Young? I didn't realize Severino has struggled so much since he faced us. Dude was at 14 wins then.

The last 5 years this formula has predicted 8 of the 10 Cy Young award winners accurately

After last night's performance Corey is now in the lead using the predictor

If he finishes the year strong he has as good a chance as anyone

Shohei Ohtani and Eddie Rosario - new age Indians killers it's looking like.

Move over Paul Konerko.

Think Pedro and Randy Johnson are the best

This guy is phenomenal. Nothing left to say.

JOSE !

I was literally just thinking when it got to 3-2 "they should probably just walk him and load the bases"

Well..
