2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree keeping Allen is much more realistic; I don't give us a chance at keeping Miller. I'd rather keep Allen anyway due to age & salary demand.

No reason to keep a guy at that price for providing less than 100 innings a year.

8-10M short term is the highest you go.

The value of a closer is generally pretty replaceable.

It's hard to know what will happen next year in the offseason, especially with agents & players now expecting it.

Greg Holland was the only reliever really affected, but his demands may have been pretty high after declining a $15m option.

I will continue to say Danny Salazar should go to the bullpen

Zimmer's baserunning prowess is only so valuable if he can't actually get on base. Adam Jones would look awfully sharp in a Tribe uniform if Zimmer continues to scuffle.

Interesting excerpt from Travis Sawchik's article today:

If the Indians ever wanted to break up their catching surplus via trade, now might be an opportune time. The New York Mets lost both of their major-league catchers to injuries last week and had demoted young outfielder Brandon Nimmo to Triple-A earlier in the week before recalling him. The Mets like Nimmo despite not having a place for him, but they also desperately need catching help. The Indians figure to have a high opinion of Nimmo who can play all three outfield spots, who has less than a year’s worth of service time, and the left-handed hitter has shown Joey Votto-like plate discipline since last year. As researched by The Athletic’s Eno Sarris at FanGraphs, only four players chased at pitches less often than Nimmo last season. Sarris comped Nimmo to a young Michael Brantley.

In the first 67 pitches Nimmo saw this season, Nimmo chased at just one pitch out of the strike zone. The price of Nimmo would likely cost much more than Yan Gomes or Roberto Perez. The Indians probably don't want to part with Francisco Mejia as switch-hitting catchers with plus bats and 80-grade arms are rare. Perhaps a match is unlikely but the Indians might eventually want to consider trading from their surplus unless they believe Mejia is best served playing another position. Mejia has been playing in the outfield in Triple-A Columbus.

Also touches on eventual MLB expansion and realignment which could bode poorly for the franchise going forward if we are forced into a division with the Yankees and Red Sox

Yeah, that'll be the day MLB loses my interest.

Can't read the article but i don't see a scenario where the Indians end up with NY/Boston.

2 new expansion teams, creating 32 teams total. 4 divisions with 8 teams each would almost assuredly put Cleveland in a new AL East division with those 2.

Now if they did 8 divisions with 4 teams each, then yeah, they definitely won't be paired with BOS or NY.

Here's a link to an article he wrote last year on the subject.

In any changes down the road, I think it would be cool to be put in a division with the Reds.

I made a new thread to discuss, check it out

If we could trade Gomes to NYM for Nimmo, sign me up for that all day.

I'm not sure NYM do it--and I'm not sure Nimmo's good enough to surplant Lonnie or Brantley this year, but the value/talent is there.

Nimmo is solid, but hasn't been a top 100 prospect since prior to the 2015 season, and didn't lose rookie eligibility until 2017.

The Votto stuff is pretty hyperbolic, but he'd be a nice young addition with a ton of team control.

Mets wouldn't touch that straight up. Throw in McKenzie or Bieber and they might bite.

Id be for expansion. To me its 2 less markets we would have to worry about being moved to. Cincy in our division would also be great. The games usually do well from an attendance stand point; so it would be nice to stretch that out across 16 games instead of 4. I did like the division with us, Detroit, Cincinnati & Pittsburgh. A lot of mediocre attendance can be made up by traveling fans.

On the flip side, any division that results in us going back against the Red Sox & Yankees will result in me throwing an unbelievable hissy fit and stop watching baseball.

To show you how fucked up baseball is, the Orioles & Rays have only won the division for a combined 4 times in 23 years. With an additional 4 WC appearances in that same time span. I get the history that is there, but you have to break them up. You cant have 2 teams completely controlling a division.
