2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's been playing more and more OF recently. For the season 208 IP at OF vs. 340 IP at C.

Other teams may see him as a C but with the way things are trending it seems like the Indians have a different idea

Yes, highly circumstantial, until they decide which of our current catchers is done.

Hand isn’t a good as Miller when we got him, but the team control is the same, and he is still very very good.

So, here’s what Miller cost.

Sheffield was 81st and in A+
Frazier was 44th and just promoted to AAA

Then we have plenty of prospects on the Heller/Feyeresian level
Yeah so idk what I’m missing here. Meija is a better prospect than Frazier was

The team control is the same

And I think Miller is like a few tiers up from Hand. Like Miller was probably the best reliever in baseball when traded on 3 years of team control

Imo Meija is a MASSIVE overpay

1) The Indians have to add at least one RP they can trust in October. You can't count on Bieber (inexperience, not a RP) or Miller (health).

2) I'm not sure Brantley leaves. Is anyone giving him more than two seasons? And if no, why not Cleveland on the 2 year deal?

3) I'd trade Mejia for Iglesias and not think twice about it.

I don't think there's an available relief pitcher in baseball that I would move Mejia or McKenzie for. They're too up and down from year to year and tough to rely on.

Mejia or McKenzie for Britton, Hand, Iglesias, or whoever else is a crazy overpay.

I’d do it for Josh Hader

That’s about it

Yeah, I'd probably do it for Hader as well. He's not a free agent until what, 2024? That's crazy and he's as dominant as they come.

I don't think a rental like Britton (who I didn't like before but is recently showing signs of life, increased velocity a sign of being healthy again) fits our needs well, compared to someone like Hand or Iglesias. I think Hand is the better pitcher of the two and can jump in as almost a Miller replacement but either one of them would be great.

What's the deal with Mejia as a catcher anyway? He's that poor of a receiver that he's fringe viable at MLB level?

The Indians don’t really need a lefty, for what it’s worth.

I’d honestly prefer a RHP who can go 1+

Not sure why we would count Hand's handedness against him. It's not like we'd really be playing matchups with him much. And our lefty relievers aren't even our strength, especially after this year when we probably lose both Miller and Perez.

I really just wanted someone to make a Hand pun.

But really, I’m not opposed to a lefty, just saying I think a high K right handed who can provide multiple innings is something I’d be more interested in.

Really sucks the Rockies got hot in July. Ottavino would be a perfect fit here and wouldn't have costed a whole lot since he's a free agent at the end of the year.

Honestly, I really like Adam Conley and/or Mychal Givens for the Tribe. I think Conley in particular, having just moved to the pen recently, could have real upside.

If the Indians do go after Hand, and Mejia is included, I’d need one of Margot, Jankowski or Renfroe coming back.

Even then, I still wouldn’t love it for the Indians because they’re giving up easily the best player in the deal.... but the organization’s comments to the media about Mejia seemed like a last ditch effort to get thru to him that the OF is basically his only pathway to the big leagues in Cleveland.

Mejia’s inability to crack our catching rotation isn’t a slight on his abilities as a receiver.

It’s primarily a testament to the guys we already have doing the job.

The language barrier is something that he might not ever be able to overcome. He’s from the same town as Jose and they speak hillbilly Spanish and nobody can understand what they’re saying.... even the Dominican guys.

Cuz Roberto’s so good...

The fact that we signed him to a long term deal and his fluke 2016 postseason would be the only reasons he still plays at least 1 out of every 5 games. Pretty sure Bauer with some work would be capable of working with another catcher...
