2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wow, if he can get healthy this lineup gets super scary. I'm a bit skeptical of that, but I imagine the price was well worth the risk of a potentially elite hitter.

I think the most interesting part of this is the thought of Donaldson possibly signing a one-year "prove it" type of deal next season.

There's been some talk of him going that route, where he tries to regain some of his lost value, and then sign the big long-term deal in 2020. Cleveland would be a great rebound spot....

So...

Donaldson becomes healthy, does Jose or Kipnis play RF?

Donaldson was originally drafted as a catcher and also has some experience at 1st as well. He has played less than 40 Innings in the OF.

My guess is Kipnis to the OF, but if Donaldson comes back we may see Alonso sit against lefties while Donaldson plays first base/DH. He may not even play this season for us.

so I am wondering if we are doing a player to be named later for him based off of how much he plays? I haven't seen who we are trading for him yet.

Somewhere, CavsRules weeps.
Beyond pissed this morning.. :chuckle:

But I like the Donaldson addition.. But his health is alarming. AZ, where you at with this? What happens if/when he plays this year, will Kip be out in the outfield?

Interested to see how this plays out. Really hope he can play.. I would think if healthy this is the best 1-5 lineup in baseball.

If it's JD at 1B/DH versus lefties while Alonso sits, I'm good.

If we're trying to plug this guy in at 3B, and move Jose to 2B, and either sit Kip or move Kip to RF and sit Melky, I just don't see the payoff. That's way too much turmoil in the field to add the bat of a guy who's basically hoping to start spring training at some point soon.

You're expecting an healthy JD to play every once in a while? Because that's what vs lefties tells me.

Well good thing the next month is basically spring training for the Indians, eh?

I'm not sure I see the downside-- he's 35-win player for his career.

I mean, Donaldson supposedly had a down year last year and he still produced a 32.6 Off Rtg (fangraphs) which would've put him 2nd on this current Indians team behind JRam.

The payoff, if he gets his game together over the next month and stays healthy, is that we just added someone a little better than Francisco Lindor offensively. I think that makes us a whole lot better even if it means someone like Kip or Allen have to sit.... like, without question.
