I bet we would have. Donaldson’s offensive profile when healthy is just such a different dynamic than Martins and they both could play. Obviously a moot point though

this is merely what I noticed not a statement of fact. I keep reading the positives about Kipnis on this site and it seems the last 2 years the Indians will try anything to not play him there in the playoffs. With 26 games left Indians are making a major adjustment to get Kipnis off 2nd. It just seems the front office doesn't like what he is doing on offense or defense. Usually Yankees 7th hitter is better but compared to the Red Sox 7th hitter Kipnis kills him.


If Donaldson is 75% of his old self we have a major bat in the lineup plus if his shoulder is healthy enough he is above average 3B.

Well good thing the next month is basically spring training for the Indians, eh?

I'm not sure I see the downside-- he's 35-win player for his career.

I mean, Donaldson supposedly had a down year last year and he still produced a 32.6 Off Rtg (fangraphs) which would've put him 2nd on this current Indians team behind JRam.

The payoff, if he gets his game together over the next month and stays healthy, is that we just added someone a little better than Francisco Lindor offensively. I think that makes us a whole lot better even if it means someone like Kip or Allen have to sit.... like, without question.

Analytics vs. the eye test strikes again .. I would clearly take Lindor .. Brantley and the recent version of Kip ... Hence the issue

Tito certainly has his hands full.

First of all I'm a super fan of Jose and Frankie manning the middle and being a lockdown duo on defense. That's already one major improvement, this is no knock on Kipnis, but this team took off the second Jose started at 2nd just last season.

We're going to need a lot of defense.

I don't know what Tito actually does, but I like Kipnis taking September to get a feel in RF with Allen in CF. If Donaldson returns to good health and catches fire sometime after the feel out phase, we're a very dangerous ballclub because the top 5 or 6 are going to get some great pitches to hit.

Kipnis doesn't deserve to get written off. The stats you pointed out have proven him very solid minus the horrendous start that still has his numbers looking ugly.

Same with Diaz ... Always a fan of Donaldson ... Glad we do not have to face him ... But chemistry sometimes trumps analytics and

If he doesn't play at all, we likely won't have to give up anything prospect wise back to them. I am thinking it was someone from this years draft or based off of the amount played who the Blue Jays get back.

I feel this is a gamble worth taking on paper, hopefully it doesn't mess with the clubhouse since this could effect Kipnis a lot since it would displace him from 2nd either into the OF or to the bench and could hurt the team more than people would think.
