2018 Tribe bullpen discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Miller really is ready to come off the DL on Friday, then I’m guessing McAllister gets DFA’d.

If they hold Miller out another 5-7 days and Ramirez has 1-2 more terrible outings, it could be him.

I believe Otero has guaranteed money for 2019, so I would imagine he safe rather than them eat that money.

As far as Tomlin goes, I just don’t see any scenario where he’s on the postseason roster barring multiple injuries.

I thought Ramirez was very impressive the other day in that Detroit loss where he got through 5 batters in 12 pitchers. But with the exception of that game, he's allowed 6 runs in his last 4 appearances, with 1+ run in each appearance.

McAllister's numbers since the end of April are encouraging:

Opening Day - April 30
9-2/3 IP
10.24 ERA (11 ER)
3.72 K/9
1.66 WHIP
4 HR Allowed

May 1 - present
32 IP
3.38 ERA (12 ER)
8.44 K/9
1.28 WHIP
3 HR Allowed

Ideally the Indians pick up another reliever and neither makes the postseason roster. I would get the decision to keep Ramirez given his control considering McAllister is a UFA (as well as Allen, Miller, O. Perez), but at this point in time I would trust McAllister over Ramirez

I did say he might not, if he doesn't perform, which he ended up doing fairly well luckily!

And come on, we all cannot agree on the same thing all the time so I like throwing in some wrenches. I just feel that if Tomlin comes back strong, it will be hard to keep him off the playoff roster.

In what scenario do you actually envision Tomlin getting legit opportunities on the mound to prove he’s “strong Tomlin” down the stretch?

Not that I think “strong Tomlin” actually exists.

Wasn’t that opportunity kind of this season?

Was just typing out a post.

McAllister has been better recently and he has a track record of success. With that said, he was left off last year's postseason roster and pitched sparingly in the '16 playoffs. If he had stuck around, he's probably the last arm out of the 'pen this in the playoffs.

Does it make much sense to keep that guy around when he's a FA at the end of the season vs. 2 more years of cheap Neil Ramirez? Probably not, especially when you're probably losing 2 of your Top 3 arms in the offseason.

Kind of odd how Zimmer is still on the 40 man roster. I'm surprised they didn't put him on the 60 day MLB DL to create a spot.

Now that's a pennant winning move.

I'm :celb (7): to this music

So Otero kept over McAllister...interesting. Not sure I agree.

Jordan Bastian shared that Otero has good splits vs. RHH (.208 / .238 / .386 (101 AB)) and he's under contract past this season

That's the reason IMO.

Otero is signed for 2019 and McAllister is not.

If they're both terrible anyway (which they both have been this year), why eat 2019 $ if you don't have to?
