2018 Tribe offensive discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If I’m the Indians, I’m looking to trade Edwin in the off-season.

Then, you re-sign Brantley and work him into the 1B/DH rotation with Yonder. I really think he could bring plus defense to the position.

What kind of value would you expect to get for a 36 year old EE coming off what is probably going to be his worst season since 2011? I'd imagine the majority of NL teams would have minimal interest.

Or are you more interested in simply reinvesting his salary?

If you can make it happen, you absolutely do it.

Salary relief.

The payroll is going to go up tens of millions next year without re-signing Allen, Miller or Brant.

Moves will be made. EE isn't producing at a high enough level.

EE is a fine player, but I think when he signed that contract a lot of us looked at him a a two year player.

A few lotto ticket prospects and the space to retain a few guys is good enough for me.

Which teams would bite?

Maybe Seattle. Their GM loves nothing more than making trades. Nelson Cruz is 38 and in the final year of his deal, so maybe if he retires. But he's still producing very well.

Toronto would maybe have interest in a reunion, but they are still paying Morales $12m next year

I’d be shocked if anyone was interested in taking EE off our hands. Then again I forget that other teams have more money than we do.

If we can move on from him, do it. Too one-dimensional. 30-35 HRs is not as impressive as it used to be, especially when you can’t run, can’t field, can’t catch up to fastballs, and take too many called 3rd strikes.

Jason Kipnis

2016: 156 games, 168 hits, 23 HRs, 82 RBIs, 15 SBs, .275 AVG, .343 OBP, .811 OPS

2017 & '18: 188 games, 159 hits, 22 HRs, 78 RBIs, 10 SBs, batting average putrid, and OBP under .300

2016 was his absolute ceiling and it has no chance to ever return by the looks of what's trending now. Call it injuries, or aging, but he's fallen off pretty badly.

Really hope Jose is the starting 2B next season and we look to put a bat that's more capable than Kipnis's at 3rd. I went from being a Kipnis fanboy to not wanting him anymore and searching for better production. He also has been developing a habit of booting some grounders.

I blast Kipnis a lot but I still cheer for him to get it together.

If he could become the Kip of old then we have an lethal weapon.

If Edwin gave the Indians 25 and 80 next year I’d let him ride it out...

I wish he produced more and the Indians will need him to be a threat in the postseason but the guy has 25 homers and 80 rbi... You’re looking at 30+ and around 100 driven in again...

I’ll take 25 and 80 next season

The thought of losing out on Allen, Brantley, and especially Miller just kills me. Love all 3 and want them all to stay here for the long haul, but it's just not how it'll work for the Indians because of the money they will commond.

Could we keep 2 out of 3? Think it's obvious you keep Miller and Brantley. If you had to keep just one...?

Man this winter is gonna be tough for us.

If the Indians are able to keep one, it seems like it has to be Brantley.

There’s just no in-house option to replace him.

The Indians, in theory, can still put together a very serviceable bullpen next year even if they lose Allen and Miller now that they have Hand and Cimber locked in.

True. I would like to at least keep 2 out of those 3 though.

Miller and Brantley. Those would be my two picks and I really hope we can keep them.

On one hand it would make sense to explore trading Edwin in the offseason. You're going to be paying $20 million for someone who is going to give you .760 or .770 OPS next year. That's way too much. But can we replace that production at all, let alone cheaply?
