2018 Tribe starting pitching discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think this opinion is stupid.

Figure out what gives you the best chance of winning every game. Based on what I've seen, that's not forcing a pitcher to go on short rest.

But, even if you thought you had a better chance with short rest Kluber and Bauer pitching, you say that and stick to it.

You don't pick a sub-optimal strategy because you're afraid of media criticism.
The reason you dont schedule something like this is that it potentially throws the entire rotation into disarray.

But sure if you trust Clevinger on full rest, over either bauer or kluber on short rest go for it. Quite frankly if its a must win game of win or go home i know who i put on the mound, and its not clevinger.

So, you're saying you think Kluber and Bauer on short rest is better than having Clevinger and Kluber on full rest?

If you think that, why does "win or go home" matter?

Isn’t a game 4 almost always a “must win”?

You’re either facing elimination, and trying to force a game 5, or trying like hell to avoid a game 5.

The playoffs are high stakes. If you’re not comfortable throwing Clevinger in game 4 of the ALDS, when are you going to be comfortable throwing him?

I am confident in Clev, and would happily put him on the mound in any game 4 scenario. Plus, you’d have your game 1 starter available in relief.

We just need 2016 Angel of Death Miller back and we're looking really set up pitching wise. Just have everyone healthy come October and let's roll. I've always loved mlb playoffs so much because once you're in it really is pretty up for grabs. Let's just hope they can put forth a better showing than last years disapointment . . .

A 3 man rotation in a 5 game series is plausible. But I think even Bauer, a guy many would consider a rubber arm, seemed to be worn out in his short rest Game 4 start last year. Clevinger is going to have to start a game at some point if you get past the ALDS, and the game he is in line for will probably be even more crucial. This isn't like last year when we were contemplating Josh Tomlin starting at Yankee Stadium. Clevinger has proven himself an above average starter in the MLB.

I don’t think the Indians are dumb enough to do the short rest thing. They’ve seen it fail two straight years.

Put your rested and healthy guys out there and if they don’t get the job done then it’s on them.

The pessimist in me doesn't see Bauer coming back this season. Damn shame, and now it makes me wonder if they're going to do a three man rotation in the playoffs again.

If our bullpen is in top shape, I could see them hoping that Bieber could give them five innings and then go over to some scary combo of Miller, Hand, Allen, and the matchup guys for the last four innings.

ALDS
G1 - Kluber
G2 - Carrasco
G3 - Clevinger
G4 - Bieber
G5 - Kluber

ALCS
G1 - Carrasco
G2 - Clevinger
G3 - Kluber
G4 - Bieber
G5 - Carrasco
G6 - Clevinger
G7 - Kluber

WS - same as above

Not sure depending on days off and all of that in-between, and that also assumes we go the distance in the other series. If Kluber only pitches once in the ALDS and we win, I'd assume he'd go G1 of the CS.

Not sure. I like Bieber, but I'm not sure about throwing him into the fire against Boston or Houston in the postseason.

I think Bauer has a shot. Hopefully running in eight weeks, with a buffer before playoffs start

If bauer is out for playoffs, we might have use him as a #3.

I don’t see any reason to think Bauer would have to miss the playoffs

I know he just got rocked by Boston last time out, but I truly think Carrasco is our best pitcher right now with Bauer on the shelf.

He's had great stuff all year, and even when Bauer was healthy he was leading our starters in whiffs.

Have you heard anything with Bauer's progress?
