2019 Around the MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here’s the truth: A sizable amount of people around here either fell out of love with baseball or were never much of a fan of the game. Yes, the ratings have been strong here recently, but the relatively weak attendance is mostly due to population and economic factors along with a larger apathy for the sport than football and, to a lesser extent, basketball. Many of these individuals are seizing upon Dolan’s tone deaf comments and his austerity measures to say “See! This is why we don’t support the Indians!” Plenty of them would rather not be bothered with them and, instead, talk and tweet about the Browns and Cavs.

Again, Dolan deserves criticism for a number of things, but I believe that there are more than a few people, who use him as a reason not to invest their fandom into the Indians rather than acknowledge their lack of passion for the sport.
I thought you left forever?

Dolan’s are not perfect. But they hired and have kept intact a good organizational structure that has led to prolonged winning, a near WS win, currently NOT a bottom 10 payroll, and a top 10 farm system.

Not saying they should be lavishly praised but also think they take the heat that should be reserved for a horrible owner. And they’re not horrible. Horrible owners maintain consistently horrible organizations.

Yankees beat to shit and probably just lost their best young player for the season. 2-2.

Houston struggling to score runs. 2-3.

Red Sox pitching getting smacked around. About to be 1-4.

Cubs committed 6 errors today and are 1-3.

Meanwhile, the Mariners who sold off their entire team and started a sideshow for their first few games are 5-1, potentially moving to 6-1 tonight, and the Orioles, who people are predicting to be historically bad this year, are 3-1.

Maybe we should relax a bit. I get that it gets tiring hearing "it's early" year after year after year...but it's early.

Red Sox pitching has quite the HR problem right now

The sneaky thing with the Red Sox is that their starting pitching is not very good. Sale has been in decline and the rest of the guys might not crack the Indians rotation.

Sale is still really damn good, his workload just needs to be monitored. Price is good. Eovaldi I think pitched over his head last year. Porcello is decent. E-Rod is pretty solid but hasn't shown the ability to pitch a full season yet

Sale had a 2.11 ERA and 0.86 WHIP last season, along with career highs in H/9, HR/9, and SO/9. He's most definitely not in decline, just needs to stay healthy.

Price is still a good pitcher, but he's not the dominant force he was in Tampa or that Detroit/Toronto year anymore.

Eovaldi pitched alright after getting traded to Boston last year, but was still nothing out of this world, and other than that, has been league average at best his entire career.

Porcello is a decent #4 guy and good #5 guy, but his 2016 season is one of the biggest fluke years I've seen out of a pitcher in years.

Rodriguez needs to put something together for a full season before I fear him at all, although he's not bad when he does pitch.

Sale and Price are the only two guys that would have a spot in the Indians rotation. I love me some Bieber, but I do think Price is still the better guy for right now. The rest of them would be Columbus depth for us.

Boston's rotation is 2.5 deep, and that's being generous, come postseason time in terms of upper tier arms right now. Kimbrel is also gone from them. They're pretty much the exact opposite of the Indians, where they're going to need their offense to carry them come October time barring any big-time moves for another starter or elite bullpen guy.

Maybe I'm imagining it or was hopeful, but I thought I heard that Sale has had a velo drop both in spring and so far during the season.

I think Price vs Bieber is honestly a toss up. We'll see, I'm obviously extremely high on Bieber, maybe more than most. I think he could easily beat any numbers that Price could realistically put up this year.

The rest is middling league average stuff. As you said, their bully took a big hit this off season and it was mostly just Kimbrel to begin with. Between having to battle with the Yankees and Rays, I'm not sure the Red Sox or Yanks should be feeling to comfortable in coming out smelling like a rose during the post season.

And if the Indians can get an outfielder and be healthy, I think they could easily surpass both teams. The rotation has 3 FOR starters and Cookie and Bieber are very high level. No one in the league can really match us when it comes to starting pitching.

deGrom with his 26th straight quality start, tying Bob Gibson’s MLB record

Boston’s -30 run differential is the worst in baseball.

This year they’re looking at a divisional exit, or something. Time a rebuild it.

Andrew Miller got absolutely destroyed last night.

Such a shame to see such a dominant player just lose it outta nowhere...

That's alright though because Tyler Naquin
