2019 Browns Head Coach Candidates

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dorsey has one sure fire way to ensure he isnt fired

Take the Rosen One

Yeah, taking Darnold because he won't even consider Rosen for *character reasons* is a sure way to get fired, and be damned for two decades by the fans, if Darnold flops.

From what I have read of Dorsey's personality I can absolutely see him passing on Rosen simply because he doesn't like the kid, because as an Old School "Football Guy," he doesn't like lip.

Russell Wilson and Cam Newton are MVP caliber QB's. Both are top 10 at the position. Truly revolutionary QB's. Both their teams are trying to ruin them. They have no idea how to coach them. The NFL doesn't know how to develop QB's anymore. That's why the top 3 QB's are a 40 year old, a 39 year old, and a 34 year old who missed half the season.

Or because he doesn't want a guy who has the gall to openly tell people/spread around the fact he doesn't want to be here. If you can't see how that is a big issue, I don't know what to tell you guys.

Having said that, this problem will fix itself in the interview portion of the combine, I'd imagine.

There are some young up and coming QBs that we saw on full display this year. Goff, Watson, and Wentz. Some guys like Mariota and Winston are pretty disappointing though.

Ya Mariota was supposedly "cant miss", I've been very disappointed with his career trajectory. Hopefully this playoff run helps him take the next step.

You really believe there's a well organized conspiracy against dual threat quarterbacks, don't you? A conspiracy that runs so deep teams actively ruin their own seasons to make sure mobile quarterbacks don't succeed.

Amazing.

Quarterbacks have rules in place to protect them in the pocket. Outside of the pocket, the protections are lifted and defenders can unload. Because the position is so valuable, offensive coordinators will scheme to change a dual threat quarterback into a pocket passer who selectively runs out of the pocket and slides. That is really the only way to preserve a QB and therefore preserve the best possible version of their offense. That isn't a conspiracy, that's protecting your most important asset.

Coaching man. Do you think Mariota really sucks or when you watch TEN does it look like they're running an offense from 2001? They legit don't know how to coach him. They don't call smart plays. They don't utilize his skills. They do a great job of making things hard. What's been the biggest difference between Goff last year and this year? Coaching. You know it was coaching because Case Keenum looked like shit there last year too and he was an MVP candidate this year. TB is doing a horrible job with Winston too. They have no idea what they want to do with him.

This had nothing to do with dual threat QB's and everything to do with teams making bad hires that will have a negative impact on their FQB's. I can make the same case Matt Ryan this year. How you take the best offense in the league and turn them int a struggle offense this year I don't know. They do a great job of making Julio look like a JAG. QB development in the league is sub par right now. This was probably the worst year of QB play I can remember in the last 20 years. A lot of that had to do with bad coaching and just overall bad decisions being made.

There is absolutely a deficiency in quarterback development, but you have completely let the college game off the hook. When the college game and pro game ran very similar offenses, quarterbacks we're developed more consistently. The gap may cause the NFL to explore a kind of minor league system someday.

That's the answer. Look at college QB play. It's awful when you discount the running around that they aren't able to do in the NFL because they are being chased by guys that weigh 100 lbs more than them but are just as fast.

I'm not letting the college game off the hook. Teams know what these QB's are when they draft them. Nobody who watched Mariota or Cam in college sat there and thought that Mike Mularkey and Norv Turner would be good for them but their teams think so. That's not on college football. That's on TEN and CAR being stupid.

Here's a good example. TEN has no clue how to use Mariota. Mike Mularkey is going to keep his job because Mariota caught his own TD pass and Andy Reid went Andy Reid. Meanwhile The Bears just hired Mariota's former college coach as their OC. TEN couldn't do that? If you're gonna bring back Mularkey who' done Mariota no favors then why not go out and get him some help. Nope. Same thing with CAR. Why no go out and try and get Gus Malzahn to be your OC? Or you know anybody who can be more beneficial to Cam than Norv Turner.

or the NFL will change the way they play. At some point a team is just going to completely adopt a college style offense. We ahve certainly see teams start to incorporate it, but eventually one team is just going to take the plunge.

You've already seen teams move away from that shit. The QBs get killed for little gain, because defenses have already clamped down on a lot of the QB run game. And if you want to keep them healthy, you have to keep them in the pocket, which means they have to function as a passer; throw on time, throw accurately, read the coverage.
