2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This was the roughest year for kickers I can remember. Maybe it was the move to the 33 yard extra point, but kickers were missing at an alarming rate in this past season. I think there are tons of very good kickers out there, unemployed, simply because they couldn't handle the pressure at some point and the teams decided to jump on the next cheap rookie. With every team failing to be consistent in the kicking game, the answer is simple: score more touchdowns.

More important than the players we sign, this team should have petitioned the league to let us redesign and release new uniforms this season.

At the very least, get a waiver to let us wear the color rush every game we wear the dark uniforms. I for damn sure don't want to spend our first winning season in 12 years doing it in these.

NFL should mandate an 0-16 clause. Any team that goes 0-16 automatically gets an opportunity to re-do their uniforms in an effort to turn the page for a fan base and reinvigorate the franchise as a re-branding.

I would do McCoy and pick #135 for pick #113.

Bucs "move up" 22 spots for a guy they're probably going to release otherwise. Browns get a guy they can plug right in to their lineup at DT, but also doesn't have any guaranteed money left on his contract so they can cut him for free if he doesn't work out long term.

It's very unlikely, but now that we have Todd Monken and looking like we'll be running a combination of Kitchens' offense and the air raid, a receiver I am interested in is DeSean Jackson.

He demanded a trade, in large part, because Jameis struggles to find him. But Jackson has looked good in two systems that run a lot of "mesh" plays and simple vertical routes because he's very fast and outstanding at reading coverage. This was evident in Philly with Nick Foles and Tampa with Fitzmagic. They are both QBs good at diagnosing their first read, but who also like to throw it to their first read, whoever that is.

I happen to think Jackson would succeed unlike he has before with Baker. Playing Jackson as an "X" on a mesh play, where he would be the third or fourth read and needing to make at least two decisions for his route, with an intellectual QB like Baker, is sexy as hell to me.

Jackson is not the most physically dominant receiver and he's not your prototypical "X" guy. Nonetheless, if we are going to bring in someone, my guess is Jackson will be significantly cheaper than OBJ and AB, has experience succeeding with Monken, and would work really well with Baker.

Unlikely to happen because I am not sure Tampa will trade him and, given that we have roughly four NFL quality receivers, Jackson's cost may be too much.

So AZ said 5th, I said 6th, but if he isn't going to be released and might be willing to rework his contract, do you think a 4th is reasonable for him? At 31 a 4th might be an overpay, but I might be undervaluing his impact on our DL

Randall is a good free safety, but not great, yet he was so important to our secondary allowing kindred and peppers to play in position and helped our corners over the top. Does McCoy set Myles and Larry up similarly? Does he help free up linebackers some by taking double teams?\

Something for Dorsey to think about.

Trust me, they aren’t going to trade him because they are going to cut him.

He’s due $10 million this year and no one is paying him that. Tampa will get out from under that swiftly.

If you want Jackson, he’ll be available. I’m on record of saying I wouldn’t hate it. Something like $11 million, 2 years, $3.5 million guaranteed.

The biggest question mark how much does he have left in the tank? For that type of price for his production, I don't see us hurting to take a chance on him, just a question on whether he will still help us or not.

I mean, if he’s wanting to compete we aren’t a bad destination and he will have good running mates next to him and behind him. Depends what he wants out of his career at this point.

We could probably sign suh and get similar production without giving up anything.

Man I agree with so much of this post, but I just can't like a post that has this kind of slander in it
It’s okay... I must’ve been in a bad mood because that is total slander. I’d be disappointed if you did like it.

Guy on PFF list for FA who I like for the Browns.

Jason Verrett is a nice #2 corner who has been injured a lot the last 3 years. Has highest coverage grade. Wont be expensive and could be high reward if he stays healthy.
