Hell no. I don’t want any part of a player who wouldn’t cut his hair despite it getting in the way of his vision. He has since cut it but I don’t want a player with that mentality.

Beggars can't be choosers. If we're rebuilding, then what's downside?

This is Chris Grant mentality, that you can't develop more than 2 rookies at a time. Payton isn't a rookie but still as upside. You take the gamble on young talent if it's only to get a draft pick later like with Sessions. I'd much rather have Payton than some vet with no future with the team or a 29 year old G-leaguers.
 
He is not worth developing straight up. He looks like he is who he is at this point at age 23! Let's say we sign him for the year and he impresses, are you confident in signing him for a long term 12+ deal per? I'm not. It's a bad decision.

He has no special skills. You can find PGs like him in the G-League if you are lucky. He is not worth taking a flier on.

What do you think his ceiling is?

I would be signing him for minimum or some sort of team favorited 3 year structured deal like part of the MLE with a 2nd year partially guaranteed and a 3rd year team option.
 
Payton's ceiling is leading a 2nd group on a bad team IMO
 
Nah Payton has potential to be a decent player, but I’d rather have someone else with better potential.

Shooters are a premium in today’s league, and I would never want Payton on my team when we really need a bucket. God forbid.

Rubio came in as a worse shooter than Payton but improved significantly. Payton, in the mean time, cut his hair. So improvement I guess.
 
And if we’re talking tank commander- why not have Kay felder? At least we would get mesmerized on the offensive end sometimes.

Again though if Rubio was really a good shooter now he would be talked about as one of the most complete and pure pg's, but he isn't. My friend said he was better than Kyrie their rookie year. I mean that was wrong with hindsight, but he has not grown that much.
