2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Am I wrong for saying our greatest need for next season on this team is a kicker? :info (16):

I actually wouldn’t be afraid to move multiple picks if it’s for a player of a Garrett caliber actually. I am not usually one to trade up but down to find more players so I think we could make a move if the player is a franchise one. Also Dorsey isn’t afraid to make the moves to get the players he needs with cap space, and less holes to fill (we don’t have as many as some people say) we could easily move up from 15-20 range into the top 10 to get the player we really want.

If you’re talking about acquiring a player the caliber of Garrett, you have to get to the top three of this draft. That is going to require the 2020 1st.

If I’m moving the 2020 1st, I’m far more likely to do it for a young established player. (See Ramsey, Beckham)

yeah without question you’re incorrect

Slightly a joke honestly, but...

So we are 28th in the league in FG% at 75% and 31st in the league in EXP% at 80.8%

We lost 3 games in overtime and one game by 3 points when Hue was the coach.

Give us a kicker and we are in the playoffs! So its a need for this team!

Now through the draft maybe not, but I think a day three pick on a kicker isn't out of the realm of possibilities. We need to make sure we can finish drives and having a kicker you have confidence in would be nice lol

That field goal percentage stat is a bit misleading, though, because we changed kickers early on because our previous kicker missed so many field goals. Greg Joseph has been making them at almost an 87% rate as our kicker (86% on extra points), which would be considered an elite rate if he were to maintain it for his entire career.

Will he? Who the fuck knows? But a kicker making 87% of his field goals isn't a major problem on any team.

True, it didn't help that the coaches and medical staff, didn't notice Gonzalez had an injury at all. It is not easy to hide a pulled groin muscle, especially when you practice kicking. Joseph was only a 71% kicker in College, so I really don't expect a future from him, but either way, I do hope we look to get it upgraded.

Yeah, I imagine it's something we will look at. However, as long as Joseph is making 17 or 18 out of every 20 kicks, we don't really need a new kicker.

How much trust in him do you have beyond 40 yards though?

I actually feel better about him from long range than close.

He’s got a missile for a leg. It’s the shorties that he tends to have issues with... Such as extra points.

A lot of kicking is development and continuity.

Impossible to expect comfort level from 40+ when you walk through the door. He's got enough leg, so let him develop until he proves that he can't do it consistently.

Isn’t it great we are talking about a kicker in the draft thread in December?

I just saw a tweet from a buckeye account and this weirdly bothers me for some reason

Why are there OSU fans that are so attached to OSU that their allegiances to a pro team even have that attached to it?

It's a bit puzzling.
Think you are reading way too much into that tweet.

Rooting for players as they go from College to the NFL is not exclusive to OSU. And for most people it doesn't affect their allegiance to their team at all.

For example, I was rooting for the Saints in the playoffs last year because they are loaded with Buckeyes. I had no reason to root for any other team. Similarly, many Michigan fans root for the Patriots because of Tom Brady. Etc. It isn't the big deal you're making it out to be.

But, the more successful your college team's players are in the NFL, the more credibility it brings to the program...which helps recruiting...which helps you win. It's why you see College coaches tweeting about their ex-players all the time on Sundays.

Maybe we should carry 2 kickers. One for chip shots and Greg for longer attempts

I get to a certain extent.

I pull for Edelman for example because I saw him at Kent, and Drew Brees because i'm a Purdue fan and love the guy.

I've just seen OSU fans cheer for Steeler players and then just claim no allegiance to the Browns, etc. It's kinda lame.
