2019 NFL offseason thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still don't know why anyone really believed he's any good. I'm so glad the Ravens bit the bullet on him, and will suck for the next 5 or so years

Good luck with him when you don't have a number 1 rated defense.

Hey, even "great franchises" mess up on drafting QBs sometimes; this is the team that blew a 1st on Carrie Prejean's husband.

Could that new system involve throwing passes? No wonder he's distraught.

The new Ravens OC is Greg Roman- the 49ers OC who built the original read-option offense that helped make Collin Kaepernik. I highly doubt he is switching to an offense that Jackson can't handle. If he could make Kaep look like a franchise QB his offense will probably do well for Jackson. And my take so far on Jackson is that the young man is honest to a fault when talking with the media- he isn't sugar coating that he has work to do, which, if folks read his whole comments, is what he was alluding to. Not sure why some are so obsessed with seeing him fail. Folks seem to think that for Mayfield to fully develop into Favre 2.0 that other QBs have to fail and i just don't get it. Frankly him becoming healthily mediocre would be best-case scenario for the Browns (just good enough that Ravens can't move on but also can't beat the Browns).

Because he plays for the fucking Ratbirds.

I'm going with the Saints. Honestly I think they've been the best team in football the last two years. But their seasons were ended by a fluke and grossly incompetent officiating.

I’m not ready to write Brees off or anything, but the last month of the season and the playoffs he just didn’t look like the same guy.

For the Saints’ sake, they better hope it was a just a normal slump and not a sign that the cliff is coming.

Again, definitely not saying he’s toast. The dude could come back and put up another 115 QB rating year and make me look like a fuck. But it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

I think the Rams, Eagles, Saints, and Vikings will fight it out for the NFC.

-Dallas should regress. They won a ton of games that, in the fourth quarter, were effectively random chance. This, combined with their inefficient offensive play calling, should see them have more problems against good teams.

-The Bears are interesting. Last season they put forward one of the best defenses in the past decade. This explains how they were so easily able to overcome horrendous quarterback play. But, defense is incredibly inconsistent season-to-season, and while I think Chicago will still have a top-ten defense, I do not believe it will be good enough to overcome their offense.

-The Seahawks are another team that probably should regress. If they ever get an offensive coordinator that acknowledges how transcendently great Russell Wilson is and uses him correctly, though, the team will have another dynasty.

-Jared Goff is getting criticized for a bad run of playoff games, and that is fair, but he also was phenomenal all season. Maybe teams figured him out, but, maybe it was just a bad few games? I think that a weaker running game will actually force the Rams to pass even more, and as a result, the team will be better.

-A healthy Wentz surrounded by that Eagles unit, without the Foles-based distraction, should be dangerous.

-Saints have gone all-in the past few years, and this season will be no different. The Saints are going to struggle against teams that can generate an interior pass rush. The Rams were able to prevent Brees from stepping up into the pocket, and as a result, he could not throw the ball far at all. I expect teams to target the Saints more on the interior.

-The Vikings' had two huge issues last year. First, Defilippo was auditioning for HC jobs, and called poor games that did not adjust for the opponent. Second, and more importantly, they had the worst offensive line in football. The Vikings have addressed both issues this offseason. I think they will surprise some people. Cousins is overpaid, but, he's still a QB that can help his team win. They also have a great receiving core and an above-average and improving defense.

1) Yeah, I think Dallas is not destined to do much. Archaic offensive system. Inadequate QB play. May miss the playoffs this year. Browns would skull-fuck that lot of pretenders.

2) Agree on the Bears. Mitchell needs to really improve his play. Otherwise, they are too one-dimensional against teams like LA and Philly who can bring it on both sides of the ball. If their opponent gets lucky on a couple turnovers it would be exceptionally difficult for them to generate enough points to win. The Browns would simply keep attacking until their D got tired and then Baker would sodomize them.

3) As long as Seattle has Wilson they are always in the mix. Their D will be better this year now that they've moved on from the expensive Legion of Boom guys that were pretty cooked. Browns would trounce them.

4) I think Goff is simply too laid back a guy to step-up in playoff games. Once he's rattled he tends to shrink. If the Browns reach the Super Bowl, the Rams are the team I'd would rather see them play because beating them simply requires a good pass-rush.

5) The Iggles will be tough. But can Wentz stay healthy? Do they have enough firepower on offense to compete with the Rams? A Browns/Eagles Super Bowl would be epic.

6) Saints are always right there. Will Brees start showing his age? I think the Browns would whip 'em.

7) The Vikings are the type of team that will make the playoffs but lose early because despite their weapons, their QB play won't be enough. They aren't going to the Super Bowl and if they did it would mean Cousins has turned into a Top-5 QB. So, not happening. Pretty Boy is a pussy.
