2019 Potential Free Agency Targets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Has Dee Ford been brought up in this thread? Dorsey drafted him while in KC. He’s an UFA this off season. Obviously, it will depend on if KC gives him the franchise tag but him and Myles together could be one hell of a tandem.
I'm late, but I was just researching free agency being excited about the Chiefs season, and I just saw an article that the Browns will pursue Ford.

I'd hate to lose him. But if we don't want to pay him, I would be cool with the Browns getting him. Next best thing.

13 sacks is pretty good and 8 forced fumbles seems like a ton. He is pretty young as well. I wonder how he is in coverage but with those numbers, I’d be interested either way.

28 in March; 2 year deal with a 3rd year mutual option?

I'd prefer to move/cut/restructure Justin Houston and/or Eric Berry before losing Dee Ford. Especially since Houston and Berry are injury prone and under performing. And we also need to make sure we pay Tyreek Hill and Chris Jones.

But that being said, if someone wants Dee Ford for a ridiculous price, we just may have to find a replacement or spend that cap elsewhere. The Chiefs need to make big time progress on defense this off-season obviously. But it's going to be a crazy bidding war. If we can find a decent replacement and save a lot of money in the process to upgrade other areas, that seems smarter than giving up all flexibility for one guy.

So if we lose him, we better be bringing back some big time defensive players. I just don't know how much money everyone else will want and if we can afford everyone.

2 or 3 year deal never gets him

He will have to be the highest paid brown...by far, 4 or 5 year deal, tons of guaranteed money. Something like 5 years, 75 million, 40 million guaranteed is what its going to take to get Dee Ford.

Yes its allot of money, but he might be the top prize in free agency.

Then I decline, yo

We have the cap, and will have the cap for 4 or so more years until we have to pay Baker.

I really want to sign him, even at that price tag. He should be good till 32, then cut him on the final year of his deal if he isn't any good anymore.

Honestly this is the type signing that can help transform us into a contender. Players of Ford's caliber dont often become free agency. Usually teams rework contracts or franchise the elite talent.

In the end I am guessing they cut Houston to make room for Ford, and I wouldn't mind giving Houston a 5 year contract, but with allot less guaranteed money. He just got a 100 million dollar contract with half guaranteed, but only has 2 years remaining and I think is out of guaranteed money making him very possible to be cut. But Houston is older (30) and thus less guaranteed money so we can cut him in 2 or 3 years if needed.

Ford has had one season of not playing like a replacement level player. I'm not interested in blowing our wad on him.

Wad? we have 100+ million in cap space. Give him a contract that is essentially a 2 year guarantee, give him decent money for LB, and the worst that happens is we cut him 2 years. We spent allot for Collins, so think of it has taking a risk on Ford instead of Collins.

We will have allot of Wad to still blow after signing Ford.

There will be lesser known "names" that have bigger impacts than Dee Ford does next year. That's my .02

Pick them up too, we can sign 2 or 3 big free agents.

I am not usually a free agent guy, but with Collins most likely being cut, and all of our good players on rookie contracts, take some chances on some front loaded free agents. spend half or so the money. We are now on the verge of making a splash. It is time to spend some cap room on new players, of course we need to save cap for our own playes like Myles and Ward and ofcourse Mayfield.

Eh.

We have a lot of space, but we're also going to start extending guys this offseason. Schobert and Randall for starters. And we're gonna have to leave some for minor deals as well. I think we can add 1 big FA.

Higgins too, not that he'll get a mega deal but he is a piece moving forward.
