2019 Potential Free Agency Targets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My biggest hope during free agency is money being equal on certain targets... guys pick Cleveland as it’s suddenly hip and cool and primed to finally get beck into the playoffs.. the city would be fucking insane

As far as football free agents, the city of Cleveland has never been a huge issue attracting people as in basketball, just different mind sets in the sports. The past issue is we were just so pitiful,. but I do think we might have a few signings who pick us with similar money because they feel something is going on here and they want to be part of it.

Very exciting, cant wait for the offseason to be in full swing, but first need to watch a great weekend of games then a super bowl.

If Jarvis Landry is recruiting good players to join the Browns, he can extend the invitation to his former Dolphins teammate Ja'wuan James. I honestly don't see that much of a difference between what a left tackle is asked to do and the right tackle. James tested out as 70.8 for PFF, much stronger than Chris Hubbard at 65. Landry and James were in the same draft class for Miami.

Can we cut Hubbard without it affecting the cap much, if at all? I'd just be surprised if we did considering it was Dorseys "big" free agent signing last year.

I didn't think he was the biggest get. Hubbard is going to average a little over 7 million a year from here on out, which is starter money but not high end for a tackle at all. The Browns are reportedly going to sign Greg Robinson but we don't know the amount. They have the money to solidify the tackle position and move Hubbard back to swing tackle. The financial future of the Browns is fine until a few more key players run out on their rookie deals, then it makes sense to move on from some poor investments like TJ Carrie, Collins and Hubbard.

I'm interested to see what the Browns offer/give Robinson. If he gets something close to Hubbard, you've got to think they plan for him to start.

For Hubbard, the Browns have an out after 2019. The contract was actually designed pretty darn well as it allows the Browns to re-assess after 2 years of marginal pay for the position.

Sounds like NE is letting Trent Brown walk. They have Wynn to replace him. Brown only made 1.9mil last year, so he's looking at somewhere around a 700% pay raise. Trey Flowers is in almost the exact same boat salary wise (made 2mil this year), and I'd guess NE would prioritize Flowers over Brown. Even if Gronk retires, I don't think they'll have enough space to bring back both.

Brown has won a Super Bowl, and was a 7th round pick who's only made about 3.5mil for his career. He'll be 26 when training camp starts. He seems like a good candidate for the Browns to front load a contract for. Pay him a lot during his prime years while Baker/Ward/Garrett are on rookie deals. Solves the LT problem and doesn't kill our cap.

I like this scenario for the OLine: Bring everyone back and sign Brown. Play Robinson at RT and Hubbard as you're 3rd tackle. If Brown goes down, then you know you can survive with Robinson at LT for a stint. And we have Corbett as a (presumably) high level backup inside. Robinson, Zeitler, Tretter, Bitonio, Brown with Hubbard and Corbett as backups is a really nice line, both starting and in terms of depth.

I don’t mind letting Robinson walk or shifting him to the righ side; he’s better than Hubbard but that isn’t saying much. I know some don’t think much of Robinson but wasn’t there marked improvement in the second half? That could be recognized as a last-ditch effort to net a contract but it’s hard to say.

It’ll be interesting to see how that’s addressed; and given Corbett’s draft slot, I’d hope he’s developed/improved enough to take Tretter’s spot if he offers more in the rush game.

Trent Brown makes a lot of sense this offseason if the Browns can secure his services. He really put it together in 2017, his last year with the Niners and first with Shanahan. He played exceptionally on the right and then Joe Staley had some injuries, so he switched to the left. Everything was going fine but then Brown's body broke down, sending him to IR.

The reason Brown didn't stay with the team was Staley still has football left and the Niners preferred drafting a blue chipper to groom for the left side, playing McGlinchey in Browns old spot. Is Brown really injury prone? That is the last question, because the Niners were fine giving him away instead of paying him.

Trent Brown would mean the end of Greg Robinson.

Which is fine, I'm all for it. Brown is a pretty damn good player.
With our cap space and need at the position, there really is no excuse for not being in on Brown. I expect that we would be.

That signing alone would absolutely make the draft about BPA in a strong defensive draft, not that it wasn't already.

I'm not really as sold on Brown as everyone else on this board seems to be.

Combine that with the fact he'd be leaving the golden touch of Scarnecchia and I'd just be weary of giving him the kind of money it appears he'll be looking for.

He's obviously better than Robinson, but OL play can (and was last year) be masked pretty well by the OC calling quicker developing routes, a QB who is decisive with his decision making and more max protections on longer developing route combos.

I just don't know if OL was a big enough issue after Kitchens took over the playcalling to justify Brown's price tag.

If they sign him, I won't complain. It just feels like more of a luxury than a true need.

I still believe Kitchens was forced to scrap a lot of his plays due to bad tackle play, and while limiting play calling hid the weakness, the tackles are still a glaring weakness. As I mentioned before, I'm also good with a strong bid in FA or high pick at right tackle to push Hubbard into a possible swing tackle role, keeping Robinson at LT. The left tackle FA crop is shallow, but there are some good RTs. Hubbard didn't play well enough to feel comfortable as a starter.
