2019 RCF NFL Mock Draft - Commentary

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Honestly shocked I got an A.

When the 3rd round was going on and I saw all the RT talent out there, I kind of regretted trading up for Cajuste.

But Dillard and Cajuste are really good book end tackles and Houston doesn't need much else.

I was kind of limited in what I could get for Rosen by the offers I got. I probably could have traded him to Tennessee for a first but I sent the PM moments after the Detroit deal was done, and hard to blame him for taking that one because that was, as you said, an absolute trade rape.

I really didn't get many other offers.

@Snowblind, just as in real life, you deserve a lower grade just for asking.

On to the B range drafts:

B+ Baltimore - I saw some good value picks here. They most likely need to rebuild the interior offensive line and grabbed Cody Ford before switching attention elsewhere. Hardman and Pratt were great value, yet I didn't understand the backup QB when they needed more OL.

B+ Seattle - They are rebuilding The Legion of Boom, but only had three picks. Wilkins and Crosby on the line with a safety will get that goal moving.

B+ Pittsburgh - The first two picks were inspired with Murphy and Deebo. At that point their GM started reaching a little too early for his favorite sleepers. Still a great draft for the bad guys, especially if I'm wrong about the picks after the 2nd round.

B+ L.A. Chargers - Outstanding values in the 3rd and 4th with high ceilings everywhere. They had low picks but a lot of existing talent. It's fun to see a team without assets do well.

B+ Cleveland - On one hand this was the best a fake Browns GM has done picking for our RCF drafts in a while. The team got value for Duke and Chauncey Garner-Johnson is a great fit. The other hand... am I the only one who thinks Dorsey is going to outdo this draft next week?

B Buffalo - Much like the Steelers, they killed the first two picks then made some head scratching picks later. I like the Ed Oliver and Greedy top two, which could make fans forget some questionable moves in the third and fourth.

B Cincinnati - Two words that everyone loves: White, Hooker. The rest of the draft saw a few moments of Buckeye Beer Goggles.

B Minnesota - This was a low impact draft, but they secured Taylor for one of the tackle positions. It can't be all bad with such a good first pick. I didn't like the 4th round much.

B Green Bay - The GM has a system and he sticks to it. As per usual, lots of trade downs and quantity over quality in the second and third rounds. We can all expect one or two of those guys to produce and we will get a bump in the mock draft thread... some will quietly be reaches that didn't work out.

The B- and lower group will be a separate post.

So what if I traded Stafford for compensation comparable to what was surrendered for Sam fucking Bradford. He’s overvalued and Mariota is shit on a little too much. Maybe thedarkness got away with a free half-gallon of gas but non-consensual penetration just isn’t applicable here.

Whatevs.

I did better than I thought I would since I went with sleepers! RT like Udoh would have been my 5th round selection since I didn’t address that yet. I feel though I hit most of the needs of the roster at least and went with football players

You did better than everyone thought that you would.

An A and B+. I'll take it.

My Falcons offense will be the Browns of the NFC.

I will happily accept the A grading, though once the year is over and Brian Burns is properly recognized as the best pass rusher in the class I expect it to be changed :chuckle:

You bite your tongue, those picks were in their mock draft ranges! And are going to be good. And buckeyes ;)

I think you severely overrate Mariota. I don't see any chance he's a starting QB in the NFL after this season.

I also think that someone like Stafford is right on that same plane as someone like Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, etc. They're not going to win you a Super Bowl on their own, but if you built a great team around them, you've got a shot.

It's time to examine the lower third of the RCF Mock Draft.

If you found disagreement with a franchise being ranked in this area, take solice in two things:

1. No draft analysis matters until at least one season into their careers.

2. One week from today, we will all know who earned the $25 Amazon gift card.

B- Philadelphia - Here was a franchise that didn't have a lot of draft capital, but threw some haymakers on day three with sleeper tight end Warring and defensive end Collier.

B- Carolina - Here is a team that crushed two of their picks for value: DeAndre Baker in the late first and Drew Lock in the late second. There were also some uninspired values elsewhere. Taylor Rapp did them no favors by disappointing on his Pro Day after being picked high.

B- Kansas City - While I was high on Jenkins at center and Layne at cornerback, I was less high on top picks Thompson and Allen. Still a good effort keeping up on the draft and always being at the ready to draft.

B- Miami - The Dolphins had a perfectly okay draft with their three selections. I personally think Sweat is a raw athlete with a lot to improve for such a high selection, but he is a great athlete. McGovern was a decent pick and I like Tranquill in this draft. Everything is just okay here.

B- N. Y. Jets - the addition of the best stand up EDGE player in the draft makes a B- the absolute floor, because Allen is going to be a serious threat for any defense. I am also partial to Max Scharping as a day three offensive lineman to coach up and develop. All that said, they overdrafted Boykin a bit and gave up in the fourth round. They also had some attitude which makes them a hard front office to deal with.

B- /C+ Detroit - I'm torn here because I believe the Lions had a plan here and due to a major family emergency I jumped in and messed that plan up. I wasn't high on trading Stafford, so I secured Metcalf to help Mariota and Galladay. The GM then went after Harmon in the second which made a team with defensive holes completely receiver heavy... and of all teams it's the Lions. So the results are a C+ but I bet the original plan was a B.

C+ New England - With plenty of picks this could have been an explosive draft for the Champs, but it felt a little flat. Polite is dropping because he appears to be lazy in the off-season, which isn't very Patriots. Little dropped because of the L word as well. The Whiteside pick ended up a home run after he surprised everyone with a 4.49 40 yard dash, which helps... but this seems like the right draft to take Brady's heir and they chose not to pull the trigger on it. Trading for an injured Walker was meh.

C+ Washington - without a first round pick, they made a strong move for Lindstrom, Cashman and Long; afterwards figured out which franchises didn't really want to research past the top 50 prospects. As stated earlier, this rubric penalizes GMs who got trade rapey, and the Skins were Rothlisbergers in this draft. So a B+ draft gets lowered one letter grade.

C+ New Orleans - One team had one pick, but they made it count with a go for broke selection of Andy Isabella as a deep threat. This is a C+ to be proud of!

C Rams - The Bradbury pick was strong, but then it was as if the GM had something better to do and phoned it in. The indignity of drafting a player who went off the board a few picks earlier ended on a desperate OSU grab.

C- both the Colts and Jaguars. Both started fairly strong considering a lack of quality top spots in the draft, and then they established themselves as easy targets for trading out of this draft. Some years that is a good move, this isn't one of those years.

*Jets were added. Long story short, I was in an area where cell phones are frowned upon when I typed this up on the sly.

:chuckle: I was super trade rapey. Any inhibitions went out the window when you gave the Lions DK Metcalf.

I was working the Raiders to get AB--when that fell through, Metcalf was my target. When that fell through, AJ Green was the only #1 WR left.

I think a draft like this gives the Redskins a chance to compete in an incredibly weak division. And, if they can't, then they tear it all down and rebuild around that young defense.
