#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dude, I am going to stop responding to the trolling, but it's like you want me to admit I was wrong about something you have imagined. Yeah in the preseason I said Jabrill sucked, and he did in his rookie year (he admits this). Sure, I was skeptical he would succeed in the NFL (as were many during the draft), but he is now playing better, but he isn't without flaws (lost us a game against TB by fumbling in OT). Was I skeptical, yes, but at the end of the day I was consistent in saying that I hope he plays better. But again, he was shit as a rookie. He is pretty solid now, but still needs to improve.

Now, guys like Wentz, Baker, Ward, are all rare rookies (like Kyrie was). My August takes still hold up, as do my takes today. Why don't you just enjoy that he is playing better in year 2 than continue trolling and baiting me?

Is there a Mrs Orange?

Does she hate Jabrill too?

I kid, I kid, lol.

I'm only asking questions. If that is too much to ask, I will not ask questions about your logic.

If you go back to yesterday, you'll see that I did not engage with you. It was the other way around.

I'm confused to what exactly I was wrong about?

Was I wrong that Jabbril had a poor year 1? No.

Was I wrong that he is doing better in his role this year as a platoon player? (65% of snaps on Sunday, while Denzel Ward got 100%.) No.

Was I wrong that he has been disappointing in the return game? No, he certainly hasn't been All-World like they said in the draft.

He is playing better on D than his dismal rookie year. I'm happy for him. Is he a full time player yet? Nope. Fourth rounder Kindred gets about 1/3 of the snaps. Nothing I have said has been wrong. But you refuse to see any flaws in this player for whatever reason. Demand excellence, not 4-12.

Guy is improving this year. Still has room to grow. Happy for him though.

What percentage of safeties and linebackers play 100% of the snaps that are also involved in special teams? I want something tangible to compare this to.

Total BS. Go look at posts 805 and 806. Just becuase you didn't quote or @ me doesn't mean you didn't take a personal shot at me.

Guys, stop attacking @Mr. Orange, it is no longer funny. It just detracts from the forum. We get it, he disagrees with pretty much everyone on Jabrill Peppers. He's allowed to do that.

I don't at all. I said he is playing better. He makes some good plays, also some bad plays. As expected from a second year player. I am glad he is playing better than I thought he would, I give him credit. Some in here are blind to his weak spots though. He is playing better but needs to keep improving. That's not controversial except to the few trolls in here.

I think you are a bit harsh on his safety skills, he has been playing very well, but maybe not harsh enough on his return skills. I don't understand why he is still returning kicks and punts, we have plenty of players I would rather try at this point.

From Jay Glazer's Q&A on The Athletic:

What are your expectations for the Browns going forward? —Joel S.

The Browns now have two things which they haven’t had for a while: a rockstar quarterback and confidence. In the past, the Browns were stuck in this rut of when something bad happened in a game it was, “oh no, here we go again.” It was almost as if negativity bred more negativity and a belief that anything good was hard to come by.

They now have a great young cornerback, a stud at safety, really strong players up in that front seven, and of course, Baker Mayfield, as well as Nick Chubb in the backfield. Together, they are building a new attitude. This team personnel-wise is on an upswing. Confidence-wise they are now taking on the personality of their quarterback, which is what you would hope for.

I'd post this in the other respective threads, but there hasn't been much debate about Ward, Chubb, or Mayfield recently. I was pleasantly surprised to see the tale of JP being spread-out.

Also,

While I am still a Jabrill fan and think he has been very good this year, I'm more inclined to think Glazer is talking about Randle and not Peppers.

Ah, good point. Could very well be.

I'll say this.. I referenced back to PFF after seeing Glazer's response and saw that Peppers & Randall are grading-out very similarly overall. Randall is grading as the best tackler on the team and has played about 250 more snaps than JP. He's absolutely a stud and a guy we probably don't discuss enough. In JP's defense, only 5 guys on the team have played more than 200 snaps on special teams; Randall is at 21.
