This guy sounds insanely smart.

What impressed me the most was the way he was able to move in the pocket last night. He felt the rush, and he would step up with his eyes still down the field scanning to deliver throws.

Extending plays is something that sets you apart as a QB in the NFL.

I'm wondering if he can throw a pass with some touch instead of just zipping them in there every time.

Also, side note, I noticed Hue didn't put him under center a lot at all during the game. Any rhyme or reason to that do you think?

Like some said, his issue was clearly holding the ball a little too long here and there. But had a lot to do with situations.

He moved well and scrambled a few times, but I also think he may be trying extra hard to not just bail out and run every time he feels pressure.

My big issue with last night was just that he wasn’t playing with top flight players. We can temper as much we want cause he faced 3rd stringers, but also need to remember he had some garbage playing WITH him too. He had some great throws under pressure from piss poor OL play.

Just excited to see him get first team run. His polish, arm and command of the position just seems far better than Kessler already and then Brock... I don’t even know. Fuck that guy. (Though I liked Kessler more than Brock. Kessler would be even more servicable if he knew how to get rid of the ball.)
I agree. When he started the second half, he bailed out a few times, sensing pressure, and made plays with his legs.

A combination of down and distance led to him holding onto the ball a little too long in the 4th quarter. However, he didn't look to scamper at all. It's almost like he was told after those first few drives that this is preseason, try to play from the pocket instead of taking off and risking injury.

I love that the first reply to that tweet is this:

This is what I thought of this morning:

This guy looked very good from what I saw. Good deep ball, some intermediate ropes, a nice back shoulder that was dropped. Showed some leg work as well. Great first game.

Holding the ball too long should be easily fixed if he has the other tools. Hold too long, and not being able to get the ball down field as a result would be a deal breaker ala Kessler. Kizer clear has the cannon on him. To @Triplethreat 's point about adding touch; I noticed some on the screen plays, but putting it in the back of the end zone is something I would like to see.

My only concern, which I could be wrong on, is that it felt like the majority of his throws he was staring down the WR. Am I wrong?

There were definitely a few different times he went to his second or even third read, but the majority was one read and sling it. The thing is, he got away with it because he was throwing guys open. He knew the route and was putting it in spots that the receiver could get it. (Mostly on those deep curl routes).

He stood in the pocket a lot and delivered the passes he needed to. To your point, he is definitely going to need to be faster getting through his reads when he plays against first teamers. I'm sure Hue will point this out to him in film this week.

I was pleasantly surprised with his accuracy last night. It was fucking on point on a lot of those throws. No chance for the DB to get there. He's going to make mistakes going forward. I'm looking forward to watching this developmental curve at throughout the entire season. He should absolutely be out week 1 starter, if only for the fact that we would have a full year evaluation on him moving forward.

SIDE NOTE: Our first team wide receivers are terrible right? I was decently impressed with Britt, he seemed to work his way open. But what do we have with Corey Coleman? Does anyone even know? He seems so meh to me every time he's out there. I'm hoping better QB play will make him pop a little moreZ

Coleman is looking very average. Maybe he was a product of that Baylor system? He got lit up on that quick out throw too.

Holding on the ball too long and committing mainly to his first stare down. But that will be fixed w/experience & time. Great fucking performance. I don't think I have been that excited for the 1st preseason game in some time.

Let's fucking go.

Not a fan of Coleman at this point.

Was thinking the same thing...he's got browns bust written all over him unfortunately. We need to see him create some separation but it still looks like he's thinking on his every move.

With that said, Ricardo Louis looked better than i anticipated last night. He's got some lengthy arms and he made some impressive catches.

Agree with everything you said @SixPACK regarding Kizer's flaws but thats expected of a rookie. One thing you can't teach is arm strength. I've been waiting to see a long-ball release like this for a LONNNG time.

Not really fair to Coleman. He needs to be given the ball where he can make moves after the catch. He was/is really good at making guys miss/breaking tackles.

I'm just glad he came out of that game completely healthy. He took two vicious hits.

Combination of playing from behind, with a poor offensive line.

Additionally, it gives him that extra split second to get his eyes downfield.

For young QB's, it's a little tougher to get through your reads from a full drop.

Being in the gun allows him a little more room for error, if he is slightly late coming off his first read.

(didn't watch the game, so tifwiw) - Totally agree here on fairness. Not a fan of Coleman? I mean, he's a Brown! Of course you are a fan! Not exactly the time to give up on a guy, especially if he's seeing the ball from Oss and Kess. He'll need to create a little breathing room with his route running, but man, get him in space, deliver the ball with anticipation, and it'll work out. In a real game, with our offensive line, which should lead to a better run game, he'll have his opportunities. We all know that some corners out there simply aren't great tacklers, and we'll get him the ball in space to take advantage.

It's not coming soon, especially because even once Kizer starts, he's going to be late on a bunch of his throws, but once the ball starts arriving on time, he'll have a bit of a resurgence.

Don't forget, Osweiler made DeAndre fucking Hopkins look average

I'm not judging Coleman based on him playing with Shit For Brains.

Let's wait to see him with a real QB.
