#52 DeShone Kizer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Considering where he was taken? Kizer wasn't a bad choice. You didn't really reach for the guy. The same could not be said for Brandon Weeden, and later, Manziel, Quinn. All three of those...in hindsight should not have been first round graded prospects.

The Browns likely passed on the "franchise/pro bowl" QB-type this year in favor of Garrett. The rest were..gambles. Gambles that were likely going to have to play with the worst receiving corp I've ever laid eyes on.

The discussion that is also not taking place is the fact that much like Teddy Bridgewater? Watson didn't want to play here.

Well, there's the problem I've harped on for a long time. The franchise is stuck with developing Kizer for at least one or two more seasons because they are overdue drafting skill positions. By taking Manziel in the first, Kessler in the third, and Kizer in the second of a very good draft, the Browns have blown three high picks that could have been skill position players to bring that blue chip prospect along. They should all be receivers and running backs on rookie deals in my mind. The endless cycle of drafting project QBs high year after year leaves other positions unaddressed with high caliber talent.

Not saying he was a bad pick. Just saying he sucks.

Yeah it's just...I don't know. To be honest...I'm trying to think of successful QB's that have had the lack of weapons he has, and Tom Brady in 01 seems to be about it.

The Trent Richardson/Brandon Weeden, Justin Gilbert/Johnny Manziel, and Danny Shelton/Cam Irving drafts set us back YEARS.

I don't know...I'm not really sold on any of the QB prospects at the top. That COULD change, and obviously if you're picking number 1 overall? One must consider it, but I'd really prefer if our fanbase could no longer have this conversation.

I'm more frustrated with the organization than anything. I truly believe they took Kizer with the intention of letting him sit a year behind Kessler and letting him learn and develop.

And then he flashed his physical gifts, and the coaching staff and organization decided they couldn't keep Kizer's talent on the bench.

Which was a terrible decision IMO. Whether they loved Kizer's upside and physical gifts, putting him into this situation, with the god-awful WR's on this roster, was just unfair.

I still see a lot of good things from him in the games, even as makes bone-headed plays and turnovers. I do think he hangs in the pocket well (although takes too many sacks), his arm talent in undeniable, and I think he shows a good attitude in the face of a ton of adversity.

I'm not sure they can put the toothpaste back in the bottle at this point, but I'd prefer they remove him as the starter and let him learn the next 6-8 weeks. Then give him another chance to close the year out, and see what kind of improvement is made.

I really like what the Browns front office has done overall, but this was idiotic....

I think he could use some time on the bench to take stock of the first games and mentally address what he did right and wrong. Sometimes guys need a do-over because it gives them the time to understand what right looks like.

I can't think of anyone who didn't think we were rushing Kizer. Hugh most definitely did push the kid off into the deep end of the pool. It doesn't seem that Hugh did much if anything to make it easier on the kid.

I was thinking it would be best if someone else started the season with Kizer coming in after at least 6 games or so. I also assumed that if Hugh did start with Kizer that he would do some things to simplify the offense and that we would heavily emphasize the running game. Instead we got a pass heavy offense with mostly slow developing deeper routes that have been getting the kid killed because he isn't seeing the routes and he's too slow on his timing in finding windows to pull the trigger on throws.

Hogan comes in with the same players and playbook and starts moving the team on some drives. But even Hogan has had his share of 3 and outs with all deep throws nowhere close to being completions, and Hogan has made some horrific decisions and interceptions.

I think it could be a good thing for Kizer to take a step back and see if he can digest more of what he needs to see as the play unfolds and seeing Hogan's success and failures MIGHT be beneficial IF Kizer uses this time the right way. I think that's what Hugh means when he talks about Kizer's attitude on the sidelines. We'll see if Hugh and Kizer can make this into a learning experience and a chance to improve.

One thing I'll predict. It's probably a matter of time before Hogan runs into the same wall Kizer was hitting, makes some horrible drive killing interception, or whatever. I'd be amazed if Hogan doesn't trip up at some point, and that's when Kizer would get his next shot at it. They need to make sure Kizer is ready when that comes.

I do see a lot of good potential with Kizer. Browns fans can only hope the light comes on for the kid. But the jury is totally out. At this point I don't think anyone can say he's going to make it, and no-one should be assuming he won't make it either.

We ywill definitely need to get him back out there for the second half of the season no matter wht, to inform our decision on who to draft. I'm rooting hard for Kizer so we can focus on offensive weapons in the next draft.

I think MMQB nails the situation with Kizer pretty spot-on..

Browns give Kizer a break.
Hue Jackson’s call to go with Kevin Hogan this week might look scattershot on the surface, but it’s being done with good reason. What the staff saw last week, and the last couple weeks, was a rookie quarterback who was clearly carrying the burden of all the bumps he hit in his first five NFL games. If we’re being blunt about it, the talent around Kizer isn’t great. Cleveland’s skill group is still a work in progress and, as a result, coaches saw Kizer pressing to do more to lift the guys around him, something that no rookie quarterback is ready to do. Two examples stuck out in the Jets game, and both cost the Browns points. The first was on a third-and-goal from the Jets’ 3. Kizer ran an option to the left side, and tried to outrun the defense to the sideline, then missed Isaiah Crowell with his pitch. Had he run it as called, the film showed he could’ve drawn the defense in, then pitched it to Crowell for an easy touchdown. The second came at the end of the first half, on a third-and-3 from the Jets’ 4. Kizer rolled right, and hesitated just long enough for Jets rookie Marcus Maye to undercut tight end Seth DeValve and pick the quarterback off at the goal line. In both cases, the effort to do too much hurt the team, and that habit can lead to a player regressing. So rather than watch Kizer go into the kind of rut in which he spent most of his last year at Notre Dame, they figured the best thing to do was give him a breather and let him evaluate the good and bad of the beginning of his NFL career. In the meantime, Kevin Hogan gets his look, and the Browns will keep evaluating both young quarterbacks. And there’s still a chance Cleveland takes another QB high in the draft. Now, I do know the Browns see Kizer as having a future in Cleveland, and my sense is he’ll get another shot—Jackson said Wednesday at his presser that this is a week-to-week thing. But the other thing I’m sure of is that the team’s future at the position remains wide open.

The Cleveland Browns are a 38 year old woman who has never been married. Everyone in her social group has been married either right out of college or within the last 4-5 years at worst. Some have been divorced and found NEW husbands.

Biological clock is ticking...almost no chance she's going to have kids at this point...so she forces relationships just so she can have guys to take home during the holidays, to college reunions or to major events.

The pressure continues to build...

Well, it's true, but...yeah.

See ya Deshone.

That article also says we passed on Jared Goff. I mean, at least do five seconds of research before you write that shit. There are plenty of ways to shit on this franchise without lying.
