#52 DeShone Kizer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the more arm talent you have, especially with confidence, the more likely you'll make risky plays.

Look at Rodgers. One of the best in the league (he is, imo), right? He makes some of the most ridiculous throws where I scratch my head why he made the throw, or even thought to do it.

Your goal with Kizer is that Hue fixes the technical problems, and as a result, those boneheaded risky throws become 50/50 plus throws (plus as in positive result), and that the technical flaws eliminate the underthrow/overthrow picks.

Kizer has made some silly throws in college no doubt. He has everything physically you want in a QB and his attitude from reports has been excellent. Gym rat, taking it all in, learning and correcting mistakes. If he keeps that kind of mentality up, especially early, he could be special.

I wouldn't be too worried about rushing Kizer onto the field if he wins the starting job outright. I think we are all experiencing a bit of a Browns hangover regarding this notion that he's too young to be tossed out there / needs additional seasoning. On paper, we have our best offensive line in years. We actually have some nice looking (keyword: looking AKA not proven) offensive weapons in the passing game.

Other teams have found their QB's in their rookie years, especially as of late. I myself have been surprised by the amount of rookie success at the QB position because that wasn't the norm just a handful of years back but guys like Carr, Mariota, Winston, Wentz, and Prescott have turned the tide. If you can play and perform better than Kessler and Osweiler, that's all that matters. The bar hasn't been set that high for us. Kizer doesn't have to play as well as Prescott did last year. He just has to play better than Kess/Weiler did last year. That bar ain't that high at the moment.

As long as he wins it outright then I have no trouble with him starting, but I don't want him to start like we did with Weeden and just give it to him. That is the biggest issue with Cleveland media and fans, they push for the rookie to start rather than let him develop at the pace he needs to.

Winning the job is important. There are different ways to win the job however. Weeden "won the job" because everyone else was even worse so by default he was the starter.

I'm not going to get my hopes up re: Kizer at all until I see it with my own eyes. Obviously great if it turns out to be true, though. I like Zegura, but he is sort of a hype machine.
Oh, believe me, I agree. I do like Zegura--he's knowledgeable and sharp. However, he's a "brown" and "orange" glasses type of guy. He gets really excited about something/someone and he's driving the train.

Wilhelm is probably the more negative/realistic of the two. The fact that he agreed completely without banter is what had me trusting Zegura.

I, too, want to see it with my own eyes--just as I feel that he has to be ready before you ever put him on the field. I just wanted to share.

If we hit on Kizer, we would have complete freedom in our draft next year. That's an amazing prospect considering the picks we have.

I'm literally salivating thinking about it. Not getting my hopes up but man, that'd be incredible. That's how teams go from bad/mediocre to Super Bowl in a few years.

It really, really is. Those picks right now are looking to have a higher than normal premium on them too with the supposed strength of the QB class. I pray Kizer is a hit and we can spend some prime picks on what look to be some really good skill position players.

The fantastic thing about this FO is that they won't use all those picks. They'll continue trading down, especially for picks in future years to take advantage of the "one year= one round" discount most teams seem to use. Doing that consistently means that we'll have a "bank" of extra picks in every single draft. Extra first or second, a couple of extra further down. That is a structural formula for long-term success.

Not hard to believe. His physical tools far exceed Kessler's and he's only a year behind in terms of experience.

If he's "closing the gap" already with only OTA's under his belt, just think of where he'll be with the entire playbook memorized and some pre-season experience to go with it.

The coaching staff is trying to temper expectations for the kid, but it's becoming increasingly evident that he's a fast learner and they are excited/surprised by everything he's been since joining this organization.

I want to see it with my own eyes, but we may have ourselves a Day-1 starter and a 2nd round steal.

I actually had a dream last night that Kizer was starting, and during the first drive of game 1 he was leading us down the field with some amazing throws. Then he hit Crow on a perfectly thrown wheel route, only for Crow to fumble going into the endzone on a juke move. Fully expect this to happen now.

I am okay if he shows up and outplays everyone else. I personally don't like his college film, but maybe he ended up in the right place for his career. It sounds funny sayin that about the Browns, but Jackson has changed this culture a lot and the FO has done a great job getting pieces. I want the best QB to start regardless of who it is. It may not be Kizer this season, but if he can be our long term and we can skip drafting a QB in the first round next season, we will have so much of a better team cause of it since 5 picks between round 1 & 2 put into the BPA rather than having to draft certain positions would be amazing lol
