A Closer Look at Andrew Wiggins

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Embiid isnt NBA ready either. No rookie is, minus the rare Lebron or Kyrie.

Many rookies are able to enter into the league and contribute something to their team. I don't think Wiggins is one of those guys. Parker and Embiid (had he not injured himself) are ready to come into league immediately and contribute. It's not rare at all.

I said before Wiggins is my guy and still is but I wouldn't be mad if we drafted someone else because I realize he is going to be a project.

This video would highlight a lot of the concerns some people have with him. In the half court he really struggles at the rim. He has a nice floater. I really hate that out of control spin move he goes to quite often. For being as athletic as he is he seems to have poor elevation with the ball around the hoop and looks clumsy at times. You see him come up short, getting blocked by the rim and very few emphatic throw downs in the half court. He seems to only throw down when there is no opposition at the rim.

Go ahead and fast forward to 3:43, he converts the bucket, but it looks like the most unathletic thing ever with the 0 elevation and falling clumsily. It seemed like he could have easily rose up and thrown down in that scenario

So let me get this straight. You're saying Andrew Wiggins isn't ready to contribute anything to an NBA team next year. Total project. But he's your guy.

Tomorrow can't come soon enough. Goodnight everybody!

Parker showed up fat and out of shape. Can't really blame Gilbert here. It's like going to a professional interview in a dirty white T and jeans.

Makes me a bit nervous though. There was a story on the reason why Cleveland took KJ over Derrick McKey was due to McKey showing up in tennis shoes and workout attire and Embry wanting nothing to do with it. It worked out, especially after the Nance trade but still makes you think

It's funny how Wiggins was a can't miss prospect until we get the #1 pick..

I agree. There was so much hype for years and all year. Then we got the first pick, and we've basically heard about flaws each had. One of the panelists on the show Chris Grant was on last night even predicted he would be a bust.

Forget the trade down or the most NBA-ready or the Love rental. Take Wiggins and move on. Real simple. Don't get paralysis by analysis and don't go into this scared.

I don't have the slightest impression that the Cavs are gonna go into the draft "scared". But I also don't think that automatically means they should take Wiggins. If the Cavs do trade down, it's because they have a plan in place for building the team that they're very confident in. One that's potentially better than just taking Wiggins at #1.

Andrew Wiggins

Wiggins is probably the most creative and most versatile scorer in the draft. At Kansas he generated volume near the basket, in the midrange, and from beyond the arc. He can spawn his own opportunities at will and can also play well off the ball. He’s an above-average shooter and finisher near the rim, but mediocre as a jump-shooter. However, few freshmen have incredible jump shots, and as Kawhi Leonard just showed us, judging a college prospect based on his teenage jumper is a fool’s errand.

As posted In the Draft 2014 thread by me as well.

Might as well add this for this thread alone.

I'm looking forward to the Cavs potentially having their own "Kawhi". Step one in building the anti-Heat team

That chart is fucking sexy.

C'mon Cavs we want this guy not some package of average players!!!!

Anyone have the Insider article headline seems to shift between "wiggins overrated" and is "wiggins worth top pick?" ?
