A Closer Look at Joel Embiid's Injured Foot

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
not a chance. By the time Embiid's body stops falling apart, he will be a lesser version of himself.

It's so annoying that people say this...you nor anyone else except the Cavs medical staff knows the true extent of his injuries. It's very well possible Embiid can still have a long, productive career. People are just speculating based on: "Foot injury! Back injury! Automatic pass."

Fellow Embiid supporters, it's time for us to rally together one last time before the draft!

I get annoyed by people denying the obvious. His body has shown to be fragile. IMO, degenerated Z is his best hope.

His body hasn't been shown to be anything of the sort. He's remarkably athletic, and hasn't had any contact injuries. He's not "breaking down" or anything like that. According to his coach, the back injury that shut him down in college was a preventative measure, and not abnormal for a guy his size that hasn't had a lifetime of experience playing basketball. He needs to be brought along slowly, but he could potentially be worth it many times over in the long run. The fact is, there hasn't been any concrete info about the extent of his latest foot injury. We don't know the severity of it. If the Cavs with all their advanced medical knowledge haven't completely ruled him out, then I can't either.

Draft Wiggins, trade him for Embiid and assets (with Philly at 3 or Orlando at 4).

So Self shut him down to be preventative and simultaneously probably cost himself a championship? We know all we need to know about the stress fracture in his foot. He got hurt freaking walking. He had to get two screws put in it for surgery. Not sure what other details need to be known.

Well its either shut him down and maybe cost himself a championship or play him injured and face a pc crisis and get less elite prospects in the future because he cares about winning more than them. So yes.

And no, he did not get hurt freaking walking. You dont get stress fractures from walking.

The reason it was preventative is because if he played him, you'd risk Embiid suffering an actual serious injury that could have killed his career. Self made the obvious and smart decision. You need time for these things to heal and not come back too soon, and that's what Embiid did. He came back and looked better than ever during the combine a few weeks ago.

And the "he got hurt freaking walking" comment is asinine. Rosebowl89 already responded to this above, but you clearly don't know anything about these kind of injuries if you think that's the case.

I actually think contact injuries would be more encouraging than what we're seeing with Embiid. Anyone can get a contact injury. It's the non-contact injuries that tend to be significantly more serious.

too many red flags for the cavs.. Too bad was not meant to be.

If anyone has the correct insight into his exact injuries. If they pick him somewhere, then I'll
know they feel that it won't be a big problem going forward. As far as I know, they're the only team
that examined him. They shared the info with Milwaukee and maybe Philly. Perhaps they kept some of
the information to themselves.

Ford has been saying this for days.

But he has also said not a single team has Embiid's records outside the Cavs and Bucks, and that neither team has said one single word about them.

All the Embiid medical rumors are pure rumor

Hey everyone, let's ignore all the noisy rumors (Jabari Parker is fat, Joel Embiid's career is over, Andrew Wiggins is not gay , etc.)

NOW It's time for STATS

But stats are boring!
No...stats are awesome

Often overlooked is Total Points divided by Minutes Played. That will give you a good idea of how much the player's game is about "getting buckets" or better yet, it's a fuzzy forumula for Offenzive Efeencienzy

***6'3"PG***

Irving college: .634
Irving '13-'14: .591
Derron Williams '09-'10: .505

***6'8"-6'9" SF***

Derrick Williams college: .649
Derrick Williams '12-'13: .486

Kevin Durant college: .719
Kevin Durant '13-'14: .831

LBJ sophomore: .641
LBJ '13-'14: .719

***PF Garbage Men***

TT college: .426
TT '13-'14: .371
Peak Udonis Haslem: .325

***Massive Center***

Hibbert college 4th year: .507
Hibbert '13-'14: .362

Yao Ming (freshman): .463
Yao Ming '04-'05: .599

Now, let's look at the draft prospects

Andrew Wiggins: .520
Jabari Parker: .624
Joel Embiid: .484

Jabari Parker is clearly the most offensively talented prospect but is also the least effective defender.
Embiid isn't too far behind in Wiggins as an offensive player, but is a better defensive presence... bc he real big.

Defensive players can afford to have lower numbers because they essentially subtract opponents Off. Eff. by blocking shots, altering shots, steals, etc.

Another stat to consider is what % of their total points come from free throws? This will tell you what kind of "special treatment" these young athletes are receiving by the officials... or how good are they at drawing fouls due to their athleticism and BBIQ. It's your call.

Andrew Wiggins: 29.5% points come from free throws
Jabari Parker: 23.9%
Joel Embiid: 45.7%
Derrick Williams: 33.3%

It's true these percentages will go down at the professional level...probably by 10% or more. It happened to Derrick Williams, and pretty much every rookie ever. Dion Waiters numbers went down 7-9%. Almost no rookies get to the line at the same rate as they did in college, period.

So after taking a good hard look at Off. Eff. we can eye test defensive potential...crazy predictions incoming!

In 3-4 years:

Wiggins will be good on the wing
Embiid will protect the rim/paint very well
Parker will be mediocre

Finally, we can look at shot locations and combine it all together and start to get an idea of what NBA player they might look like...

Wiggins = Rich man's Nic Batum
Embiid = Far better than Roy Hibbert
Parker = Paul Pierce with more rebounding

Lets look at FIT for the CAVS (Griffin has been talking about fit and "there's this one guy")

The Cavs are currently middle of the pack (16th) for total points allowed.
The Cavs are currently 5th for points allowed in the paint.

There is room here to go up!

At this point, I'm extremely confident the Cavs will select Joel Embiid with the #1 pick (Yao Ming was also #1)

These proposed trades that the Cavs are flirting around with aren't for Parker or Wiggins, these teams are trying to get Embiid and his insane rookie contract.

If you are going to get a player that plays better than Hibbert (read: 15 million dollars) at an average of 6.7 million a year for 5 years, that's just great value.

I wouldn't believe any reports you read about Embiid's medicals that come out between now and the draft...teams could be posturing hoping Embiid falls to them. ESPECIALLY Lakers/Celtics.
