A New Beginning

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was tempted to post earlier in the off-season, but couldn’t find the words to express my feelings. After thinking about it for the last month, here’s how I feel about everything that’s happened since the Finals ended.

The way LeBron left can leave a sour taste in any Cavs fan’s mouth. But having it happen 8 years ago did help soften the blow. Am I surprised? Yes. But he did manage to get our team the elusive championship. And as a fan of the team since the late 90s, it was worth it. Hopefully, he finds his happiness as a Laker, but filling in the shoes of that historic franchise won’t be as easy as here in Cleveland. But you won’t see me root for them anymore than Golden State…

The team we now have is interesting. There’s some promising young players (Cedi, Zizic, Sexton, Nance). And there’s some veterans of varying levels (Love, Korver, Hill, Smith, Thompson). It’s probably an improvement over 2011 (Hickson, Hollins, Jamison, Samuels, Eyenga, Moon, Gee, Harris, and Williams).

While I don’t think anything beats the joy of competing into the month of June, a lot of the regular season lacked heart and effort because they were aiming for June. There’s a learning curve that comes with an inexperienced team. And learning how to win again may take years. Hopefully it won’t be as embarrassing as 2003 and 2011.

Finally, winning is fun. But it doesn’t take up the front page of the sports sites during the summer. People love sports trades and movement because it’s entertaining. And when we aren’t winning games in April and May, we might not know what we have until it’s gone.

But I'm not too worried. Here’s to rediscovering my Cavs fandom at RealCavsFans.com!
