A trip from Slovenia to Cleveland for the season opener

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What the best way to get to West 25th from Hopkins international?

How many tickets are you purchasing? In general it's always best to wait until 24-48 hours prior to the game when purchasing tickets as the secondary market takes a dive. If you only need a single seat, you are in the driver's seat as resellers will beg someone to buy a single.

If you're spending all the money to travel from Slovenia and going to a game when the first Cleveland championship banner will be raised in 52 years, I don't know if waiting until 24-48 hours before the game will be a stress-free option... I agree with this advice in general, but these circumstances are pretty special.

Yeah that's the problem. I'm looking for people around me willing to go, but no one can as they don't have the money, time or both. So I'll probably buy all the tickets for everything in the next week, cause I don't really want to come to Cleveland and find out I won't be able to go to the game. Right now I'm looking for tickets on Stu Hub just as Simmy suggested, and they aren't really cheap (around 250$ and more for the upper levels). But hey, guess that's what I'll have to pay to watch the game. Once I get there I'll certainly forget about the cost and just be happy I was able to watch a game like that.

I can't overstate the importance of holding off until at least the month of the game before buying tickets. There are so few tickets on the secondary market at the moment, hence the high asking price. The reason for this is because no one has their season tickets in hand yet and the average fan won't resell their tickets until they have the tickets/barcodes in hand.

So even if you bought tickets on StubHub right this second, you wouldn't actually receive the tickets until season tickets are sent out and barcodes are assigned. In the end, the only difference between buying your tickets now and on October 14th would be you spend more money now--the physical tickets won't arrive until then regardless.

How many tickets were you looking to purchase?

At the moment I'm thinking about just the one ticket, but I am looking for anyone from around who has the time, money and is willing to go. So you think I will still get the tickets if I buy everything else now and hold on till the end of September to buy the tickets for the game?

Absolutely. I would recommend waiting even longer, but at least until September. The Cavs push their season ticket holders to Flash Seats for resell and you can buy tickets on Flash Seats with mobile delivery even on the day of the game.

Trust me, long gone are the days of getting "shut out" of a game and having to crawl to ticket scalpers on the street. It's in your best interest to wait until much closer to the game to buy tickets, especially if you're buying just a single seat on the secondary market (e.g. StubHub, Flash Seats).

I might be changing my plan now. A friend said he is considering going if I consider going to Toronto instead of NYC. We'd probably go by train alongside Lake Erie, through Buffalo go to Niagara falls and then across the border.
Do any of you have a suggestion for any stops along the way that are not too far out of the way? Cause by our calculations we'd probably have a day or two of free time to stop at any interesting places either along the way in the US or after we cross in Canada.

I'd say don't go to Niagara Falls. It's a trap. It sounds good, but it's just ugly and boring.

Davoor as a fellow Slovenian this makes me very happy to see your Cleveland Cavaliers dedication.

Unless you are really into rock and roll music, my alternative suggestion would be to go see the Cleveland Museum of Art. It is really spectacular since its renovation and just a lovely, peaceful, modern place to hang out in Cleveland.

If you like drinking beer I would suggest going to the Great Lakes Brewery because they shuttle people across the aforementioned bridge and drop you off within a block of the Quicken Loans Arena. I believe that is cheaper than taking an uber.

You are Slovenian after all, you probably want to drink, drink, drink some more and save as much money as possible.

Believe me I understand!

You are right. You know us so well :chuckle: I will certainly take your advice!
And to your first point. Cleveland is after all the second most populated city with Slovenian people besides Ljubljana. I just always felt a connection to the city because of that and it so happens that when I started following basketball 9 years a go, a certain guy by the name of LeBron James really came on to the scene (the Detroit series). After that I found out about this forum and because of you people here my knowledge of basketball became deeper and I also felt a deeper connection to the city cause some of you guys' stories.

I would ditch your friend and go to NYC if you've never been there. :chuckle:
But, honestly, Toronto is a fun, accessible, and multicultural city, so you may just want to spend some extra time there.

I don't think the train makes more than one stop between Cleveland and Buffalo, so I can't think of any key side trips. Check out tripadvisor to see if anything in Buffalo interests you.

Got two other friends to go with me. Now we are starting our trip on October 19th from Washington, through Cleveland and Buffalo, the we finish it on October 31st in Toronto. We got good priced plane tickets so when I saw the price I said that we surely need to buy them. So we did and I still can't belive what I've just done :bigshock: The dream is becoming a reallity!!!

Davoor,

This has nothing to do with your trip, but my grandmother was from Slovenia, and I understand we still have relatives there. I hope you enjoy Cleveland.
