Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Unless I am misreading the CBA provision, he can sign with anyone. The year cycle doesn't apply since his contract ended.

As per current CBA:

  • A team cannot reacquire a player they traded away during that season (a season being July 1 - June 30). If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first. However, if a team trades a player's draft rights, they can reacquire the player during the same season.

According to various reports, the Cavs contract (in effect when Portland waived him) was partially guaranteed for 2017-2018. So, I don't think he can re-sign with the Cavs until the one-year anniversary of the trade. Cavs beat reporters also printed as much when Portland waived him.

Ah, ok. I had it in my head it was a three year contract that ended in the 16-17 season, but with the third year as a team option. So when he was waived by Portland and then signed a new contact with Golden State, it meant his contact with the Cavaliers ended, that then 3rd year option would not take effect.

I've always had a sneaking suspicion Andy was the player who would leak information to the media over the years. It picked up when he was a center piece on this team and died once he left.

I'll say it again, fuck that guy.

Zeller had the loosest lips on the team.

NEW YORK -- Yes, the Cavs noticed the Golden State Warriors waived Anderson Varejao.

Here are three reasons Varejao will not immediately be re-joining his old teammates with Cleveland, even though the organization could use a fourth big man:
    1. Varejao is prohibited from signing with the Cavs until Feb. 18 at the earliest. Because Cleveland traded him to Portland on that date last year, and league rules prohibit a player from returning to the team that traded him for one year, he can't become a Cav for two more weeks.
    2. Another team is going to claim him off waivers. Teams are required to spend at least $84.7 million on player salaries this season. The Timberwolves, Jazz, Nuggets, 76ers, and Nets are all under that salary floor. Picking up the remainder of Varejao's $1.55 million contract would help those teams get there.
    3. The Cavs want to maintain roster flexibility until at least Feb. 23, when the trade deadline passes. They haven't ruled out signing a point guard to a 10-day contract to temporarily fill their open roster spot, but otherwise they want to leave it open until trading season is over.

Can we pawn Birdman off on any of these teams for something? That'd be great to remove his carcass from the roster and get some kind of asset (2nd rounder) for him.

I hadn't thought about that, but it stands to reason that if Varejao can get claimed off waivers, Birdman might get claimed too. Now could the Cavs trade him for a a pick? Maybe top 55 protected.

No thanks on bringing him back. Just can't get over the excessive flopping during the Finals last season.

If we can welcome LeBron back we can welcome anyone back. The only reason we won't be signing Anderson is because he's done.

I'd love to see the hair come back. Not sure he can play though. Rumor mill is busy saying it ain't going to happen. He never was a Griffin type player.

Well lets see...
1) He wasn't ever very good. Mediocre role player at best. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves.

2) Anytime he cracked 9 ppg, he played 31 games or less.

3) The only time he truly looked any good, was because we were beyond shit.

3) He went to the Warriors not to win, but to spite us.

4) He was a dick in the finals.

5) He denied a ring he was offered.

On top of all of those things, he is complete trash now and has been for atleast 2 years.

We welcomed back Lebron because he was the greatest player we have ever had. Its like the hot chick who cheats on you, but you are willing to take back solely because of her looks & the sex. Andy was a 3 at best. We should be grateful we were finally able to get out from that abortion of a contract and actually turn his salary into something.
