Andraez “Greedy” Williams: Round 2, Pick 46

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm hearing that not only has Greedy basically established himself as the #2 corner, but he has been the best defensive player so far. He has been picking off balls left and right. He's a natural playmaker and could ***possibly*** become a better cornerback than Ward one day.

Defense has been winning against the offense and we aren't even seeing the true impact of the D-Line since they're avoiding hitting the QB.

To be fair to Ward, I am betting they are avoiding him even in practice, ie Greedy is getting tested a ton more.

What is really exciting is Greedy is up for the challenge and surpassing the hype even.

Agreed. I like that Greedy has the size as well so we can throw him against the bigger receivers. Ward struggled some with Michael Thomas last year because he was much smaller.

Through two games, Greedy looks like an elite corner. He's arguably been the best player on our defense so far outside of Myles, and I think the argument could be made that he's been even better than Myles. Dude is just glued to defenders. Everytime the ball is thrown to his man, he is right there and he is contesting.

Early returns so far have been as good as possible in my eyes. What a steal getting him at 46.

What argument can you make he is better than Myles? Sure he has been great, but no turnover player in the secondary vs a guy leading the league in sacks?

I have no interest in that debate but he has me curious to see his completion % when targeted and/or qb rating when targeted.

Myles has the sexy sack numbers, but he’s also got the penalties. I’d have to do some research to see how he’s done against the run.

But Greedy has completely shut down whoever he has guarded for two games now. No sexy stats for that but that is incredibly valuable.

You know my arguement for the roughing penalties not really being roughing, Myles is just getting it done, for sure he is inside the heads of the other QB's.

Oh, I agree with your argument. But, unfortunately, if the refs call it, it’s a penalty.

Greedy has the second best PFF grade in coverage because he has a coverage snap/target rate of 16.7. That means it has taken the Jets and Titans, on average, 16.7 passing attempts to target him. And he is allowing only one reception per fifty coverage snaps. When targeting Greedy, opposing QBs have a passer rating of 52.1.

He's been elite.

Albeit against two of the worst WR corps in the league.

Next week will be a test.

Agreed, and he is guarding the #2 receiver in those receiver groups. He's looked slightly better than we should expect, which is awesome, but the Rams will test both Ward and Greedy.

He was good in run support but he got pretty routinely burnt against the Steelers committing DPI pretty much every time on go routes

we got lucky the refs swallowed some whistles but I thought Greedy was getting beat like a drum against some pretty mediocre Steelers receivers

True, though I think the big DPI he DID get called for was ticky-tack.

At some point in the game the Steelers decided to throw away all semblance of a gameplan (they were getting shut down) and throw vertical bombs, and have their receivers wrestle with the defenders in hopes of drawing the flag. Could be just me, but it felt like the refs recognized the activity and wanted to just let 'em play.
