Sell me on Vance Joseph. Got a friend who is a huge Bronco fan - says he is one of the worst coaches he has ever seen - on Hue's level.

Well, we're not hiring him as a head coach -- we're hiring him as a DC. And the reason he got hired in the first place as a head coach was because he was such a good DC. So maybe it is Romeo Crennel syndrome. Romeo wasn't that horrible as a head coach, but he was clearly much better as a DC.

He might be a horrible head coach, but the good news is the Browns wouldn't be asking him to be the head coach.

Broncos D was 5th in DOVA this year and 10th the year before.

Hue Jackson was a successful OC a few years ago...

You need to find a new friend that is better at understanding football.

Steve Wilks has the same amount of defensive coordinator experience as Vance Joseph for what it's worth. One year for each.

In Wilks one year as a DC in 2017, the Panthers were ranked 7th in DVOA. That was up from 10th in 2016 and it dropped to 22nd this past season.

Seems like a lot of good options passing on Browns. Whats the story?

I don't mind Wilks but I don't think he's the DC near Pagano's level. He did generate impressive pass rushing numbers, but there was an issue vs the pass there.

I can't stress how similar Wilks and Joseph's career arcs are...

Joseph: 10 years as a DB Coach, 1 year as a defensive coordinator, 2 years as a head coach
Wilks: 11 years as a DB Coach, 1 year as a defensive coordinator, 1 year as a head coach (also three years as assistant head coach)

If you liked Joseph, there's no reason to not like Wilks.

Hire Monken and promote Lindley (29 years old) from RB coach to QB coach for 2019.

If Monken gets a job in 2020, then you promote Lindley.

No downside to hiring someone like Monken IMO. Even if he bounces in a year.
Which is why the the Williams/Kitchens combo was never really a thought. If Kitchens bounces, we're screwed.

But a Monken/Kitchens combo works because Kitchens by himself works.
