Athletes You Have Met

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Josh Gordon discussion

FUCK JOSH GORDON

He had a signing scheduled in the mall where people could come and get autographs for 20 bucks.

So me and 3 buddies were going to go, and I bought us 50 fucking dollars worth of photos to get signed, and now he fucking cancels because he wants to get paid more

Completely lost respect for him

How old are you?

Joe Banner drove by us in a police escort after the Lions loss. A group of people flipped him and his family off. Classy.

Larry Nance
Mark Price
Kevin Mack
Joe Carter
Met all of them through my dad when he was working in downtown Cleveland

I was a kid when this happened but I remember it pretty clearly. Craig Ehlo was at my neighbors house, he wanted to look at it because he was going to build the exact same house down in Atlanta. Anyway, I was over there shooting some hoops with a bunch of the neighbors when he walked out. My neighbor asked Craig how far away the NBA 3pt line would be in the driveway, he grabs the ball, takes a step back and drills a deep shot from the corner of the driveway, he looks at the guy that asked the question and says "right about there"

Met Steve Nash in the concourse at the Q after a game last year or the year before? He was holding a beer in his hand too :chuckles:

Sat next to Jamaal Lewis on a plane
Played golf with Roy Williams (WR) and Ray Allen
Johnny Football (multiple times - the f**king man), Colt McCoy, Lache Seastrunk, Nick Foles, Ryan Swope, Aaron Williams and a bunch of Texas/Penn State players.
Teddy Ginn Jr.
Travis Fryman
Jim Thome
C.C. Sabathia
Travis Hafner
Adam Dunn
Brandon Phillips
Trent Dilfer
Drew Brees
Bruce Jenner (current, not in his prime)
Kemba Walker
Jim Calhoun (guess it sort of counts)
Almost every important 2012 US Olympian - from LeBron to McKayla Maroney to Ryan Lochte to Coach K and Missy Franklin, but not Phelps. A lot of them were awesome people, some sucked (your assumptions are probably accurate).

My conversation with LeBron is the greatest one I will ever have in my life. KD was probably the nicest of the bunch, but Kevin Love was great too. Didn't really converse with them all, but a lot of them were nice people. Helped that I had the position I did, because they may've been douche bags if this were in the public.

Possibly forgot a few.

i swear i saw the cav's in-arena entertainment lady today at southpark mall

What's with Johnny? Is he as big a douche as he seems? And is he the type of douche where his teammates love him, or everyone hates him?

Pretty cool guy and not a high-horse blowhard, unlike a lot of less-popular college athletes I have met. Low-key, surprisingly, when he is out with people his age. At night you can barely tell it is him because he wears a lowered baseball hat and just doesn't look like a football player.

Most of the stuff people go after him about is trash. He's had his moments, mostly the fight, but he is treated like a celebrity being chased by TMZ. He didn't handle it well at first, but he has controlled it pretty well to this point. Ive never been one to blame him. He went from a nobody to a celebrity over night and it resulted in people, media and campus officials wedging into his personal life. Takes some adjusting, or I assume it does. People compare his handling of the situation to Tebow, which is a farce, but forget that Tebow was not a nobody when all of his Heisman stuff happened.

Johnny said and did some things he shouldn't have, like any 21-year old, but overall the whole douchebag and troublemaker image created through the media is pretty false. I don't feel bad for him, because it was the hand he was dealt and has it going pretty well for him, but I find it unfortunate that people couldn't enjoy Johnny's time as a premier player because he wasnt "Tebow" enough in their eyes. Johnny does a lot of things around campus to reach out to fans and the community. Especially after games with younger kids and families. The picture painted isn't the one you really see.

Only autograph I have is from Sandusky's own Brian Bixler. He signed a bat, ball, card, and paper for me. The Tribe had him a few years ago, but I think he fizzled out in Triple A for the most part.

Actually Bix was on a minor league deal with the Mets for 2013. Technically still in majors.

Marge Schott and Schottzie. Can't believe I almost forgot about that. The original Mark Cuban.

I don't know how I missed this one the first time around...

I've met a decent amount of athletes/coaches in passing at various events (e.g. Vegas Summer League, clubs :chuckles:, work, etc.) such as Antawn Jamison, Byron Scott, Mike Brown, Jerome Bettis, Andrew McCutchen, Clint Hurdle, Jamie Dixon, etc. Most of these didn't involve more than a handshake and 1-2 minute convo. But with my current job I've been fortunate enough to meet and interact with countless college athletes and have even helped host/show around other athletes, sports writers, etc.

Two events that stick out are when I was able to help give a walking facility tour to Alex Rodriguez & Darren Rovell (two separate tours, not together). Rovell is a very interesting dude... rapid fire questions, very calculating, needs to quantify everything, and even has a portable phone charger that looks like a colostomy bag he lugs around in his pocket because of how often he uses his phone. All in all a nice dude, just be ready to answer a lot of questions :chuckles:

Alex Rodriguez was surprisingly quiet and reserved, perhaps because he was only around 7-8 other people. Came off as a very respectful and intelligent athlete interested in other sports and history within another organization. He also didn't turn down a single autograph or photograph request by those passing by, but made sure to do it while still walking so he wasn't stopped and mobbed. I definitely came away impressed with how he carries himself, especially given the negative media narrative that has followed him seemingly since he arrived to New York.

I know you landed a job in sports (well deserved based on all of the stuff of yours I've read), what is it you do again?

Also don't tell Pip you met ARod.

About every Cavs player when I went to media day this past year.

Shook Lenzelle Smith Jr. hand while at a Cavs preseason game in Columbus this past fall.

Just curious, how do you guys meet all these athletes? Before games? After games?
